Weird Coolant Leak

ok once my truck(2006 silveraldo 1500 5.3)warms up you can smell a strong coolant smell. so i checked into it a lil farther and it looks like it is coming from around the underside of the exaust manifold around cylnder 3 or 5. no coolant in oil. but coolant is leaking, have to refill it every few days. i thought i read somewhere that these trucks have a common problem with head gaskets? but like i can see steam or evaporated coolant coming from around the exaust manifold. but my truck is avg 12mpg and its killing me. but the truck is running alright ever since i replaced the knock sencors. any help with be GREAT... THANKS...

 

I seen the TSB on this sight but i think the coolant is coming from inbetween my head and exhaust manifold. some say gasket is bad some say head. IDK which but hate to spend that much money on it if i dont have to. but planning on tearing it down this weekend and looking farther. Your opinion would be greatly appreciated...
