Big dealers can be a pain...

I finally found the truck I want to buy at a large dealer in Pittsburgh.  I went down to look at it and it is perfect for me (1500HD "LT", absolutely loaded to the gills).  I went to my "small" but great dealer and asked them to bring it up here and I'd buy it...

After several calls down to Pittsburgh the connection was made between the 2 right people.  Unfortunately the Pittsburgh dealer doesn't want to help the small time dealer make a sale!!!  Car salesmen are a bunch of lying @#$%&^*!!!!!!  They told my dealer that they couldn't possibly let the truck go on a dealer trade because he has 5 or 6 people looking at it right now...

When I looked at the truck, it had been on the lot a min. of 4 weeks or more (May insp. sticker), and it had shown no signs of being moved (tire marks on the ground etc...)  The truck hasn't even been "prepped" yet because the plastic is still on the seats, and all the thingamajigs are still hanging all over it!!!

I could have been driving it by Friday if they would do a dealer trade...  now I'll have to order one and it won't be here for 6 weeks or so.  One plus is it'll be a 2002 but my truck will take a bigger hit on trade-in value because of the same reason...  it'll probably end up costing me ?-? more if I wait 6 weeks and the price increase from '01 to '02 is only ?!!!

Why does buying a new vehicle always have to be a pain in the butt????

Shaners- that is odd, most dealers are willing to work together because it will turn the other way one day and they will need the truck the small guy has....one thing that concerned me in reading your post (I am sure you already know this and I just read it wrong) was your mention that the trade in value will go down if you buy a 2002...the trade in will be the same no matter what.. they will just make more on the deal.  Your trade was evaluated for what its worth. Period.  No changing that amount, they aren't going to give you more or less on it.  They are just less willing to come down in price on the ordered 2002.  A little known NewbieZ71 fact: I used to sell Chrysler/Dodge/Plymouth years ago in Florida including Dodge trucks!  I can hear Mervz now, "Well, THAT explains some things!"

What he was meaning by the trade going down was that six weeks from now when the new truck comes in mine will have extra miles on it...  He was also saying my '00 is one year old and when the '02 trucks come out it is then 2 years old...

It won't matter now, because "David has slayed Goliath"!!!

My dealer called and said after some research and number crunching, that he'll be able to put me in a '01 2500HD that should be arriving from the factory later this week for about ? more than the 1500HD I wanted.

It is an "LT" model and has everything I want and a few things I don't (roof marker lamps, 5th wheel wiring provisions and I would prefer 3.73 gears over the 4.10's).  For the ? I will get more truck and probably better resale value...  I think it sounds like a winner to me!!!  This truck also has the updated 6.0L (325hp vs 300hp).

The dealers invoice shows the truck shipped on 6/16 and expected delivery of yesterday (6/25).

I'll keep everyone informed....  Thanks.

That sounds like a good deal on the 2500.

You could always have them do a search on other local dealer lots and see what they come up with and they can also check other dealers manifests.

We had to wait a week for my wife's Tahoe and it was going to a dealership on the oppostie end of town from where we live and struck the deal.

They actually had a driver waiting on it when the truck showed up and as soon as it was unloaded, they took it away.

Thats might be a good deal.  I, personaly would be tempted to go with the 8.1 is i was getting the HD though. I know, i know, you don't need it, it will use more gas.  But then again, that just me.

I do like the look of the HD's though!!

... here in syracuse ...

Before I settled in western North Carolina, I use to live around Syracuse.

Moved there when I was around 4 years old and left a little after high school (Jamesville-Dewitt, class of '81).

Been awhile since I was last up there.
