Oil Pressure Silverado 2010 5.3l

I am new to this forum and GM trucks. I have never owned one before.

But I am just curious what people are getting for oil pressure in their 2009-2010 Silverados with the 5.3l Engine? I am getting about 30psi warm idle, 40 when cruising.

Is this normal or low? I guess I am just asking to know what other peoples trucks are running at and if this is normal. I am use to the dumby "low-high" oil gauge in past vehicles.

To whom it may concern, thanks for all your help.

My 08 has the same pressures.

That is good to know. Thanks for all the input. I won't worry about it anymore

I guess I have one other question. Did the older 5.3l from like 2000-2002 have higher oil pressure? My brother has one, a Sierra, and his seems to run alittle higher...could it just be variation in the gauge or cause it is older?

I believe the Gen IV engines have a higher volume Oil pump, so the pressure is a little lower. My 03 4.8L runs at about 45-70PSI Idle - cruising at 60Mph

a smidge above 40 psi on my 5.3 lm7 and about 35 at idle if its been running awhile...just remeber 10 poinds per 1000 rpms and you will be fine...

An old rule of thumb I've observed in some documents is to pay attention to the normal operating readings and note them down. The reason for that is because of the differences in oil viscosity when new and old, when cold and thick, or warm and thin. Oil pressure should not fall below 18 psi on the older engines and I suppose newer engines aren't much different as they are still internal combustion engines.
