Request For Suggestions: Full-size Forum Split

Howdy folks,

First- thank you very much for visiting and being a part of GM-Trucks.com

As we approach our 10-year mark Josh and I are looking at simple things we can do to help keep the forum properly organized. It's no surprise that the full-size forum is the most active section on GM-TC and we feel that it's finally time to split things up into more organized and defined sections now that traffic is at an all time high.

At first glance, I see a need to address the differences between the GMT-800 and GMT-900 platform. Perhaps something along the lines of this...

- General Full-Size (The current Full-Size forum)

- GMT-800 Truck (1999-2006 Silverado & Sierra)

- GMT-800 SUV (2000-2006 Suburban, Yukon, & Escalade)

- GMT-900 Truck (2007-Current Silverado & Sierra)

- GMT-900 SUV (2007-Current Suburban, Yukon, & Escalade)

But, honestly, I'm not sure I'm qualified to really be 100% sure of what you, the forum public, would like. All I know is that it seems silly to lump so many years, makes, and platforms into the same forum. I know we've hashed this before and never taken action but believe now is the time to do so.

What do you think??

I think it would be a great idea to split them up. The only other way is to get folks use to putting [GMT-900] in their titles. An example would be "[GMT-900] Exhaust Recommendations".

I like your idea better, but if the majority of the forum is against it, then the title thing might be a reasonable alternative.

I agree...a split would be nice...not sure if splitting trucks and SUV is needed, you would have a better idea being you see the traffic pattern

 Gets my vote... and I like the idea too of the denali group split. Even though I don't have one, it's a good section to have.

As long as the "View New Posts" stays the same where you can see all of the posts, to me it doesn't really matter and the split would help organize a little bit.

heres how i would do it:

1) classic trucks (pre-gmt400)

2) gmt400 trucks & suv's

3) gmt800 trucks & suv's

4) gmt900 trucks & suv's

^^^ and make those "sub" forums to the General Fullsize forum.

i dont think Denali's and Escalades need their own subforum.... almost all of the questions are the same (what size tires, how to level, etc) so why be redundant?

keep it simple imo.

and just in case some of you guys arent aware.... there's an entire website/forum dedicated to Denali trucks & suv's and there are quite a few members there; but even with all of the members the forum is extremely slow.. i dont see it being any better here especially since there arent many "Denali" specific questions... so i just think it'd be a waste. $.02

I vote NO. Reason being I really don't think there is enough traffic to support that many different Forums. I guess I'm used to my other favorite message board where at any given time there are 500-4000 ppl posting and you get instant numerous responses to threads. Here you may start a thread and have to wait 10-30 minutes depending on time of day to get a response. I don't mind the questions concerning other model year trucks and SUV's as I may have input having owned one in the past.

I like the idea of recommending that users be more specific in their thread titles though. Just my 2 pennys.

I would like to see 800/900 trucks together, and 800/900 suvs together.

If it is split up to much when someone is looking for input there will be less traffic to view a topic.

I don't see the need. Not to be a b@tch, but we already have forums for specifics like Audio and Tires, but people always post in the general forum instead, and mods don't usually move those post to the proper sub-forums.

i believe that splitting it up a little would greatly help, however i do not care how you split it up. i do however think the best way would be:

gmt900 trucks&suvs

gmt800 trucks&suvs

and so fourth....make a poll to find out man, maybe add in some area's of the united states as well, like northeast, southeast, north, northwest, midwest, south west, west, and south...and split the states up into each category so we could find out if any other members happen to live near us...that's how f150online does it, no saying we should follow ford's ways though ;)
