Ok I was doing some research and it says for 2010 the 6.2L with the NHT max trailer pkg you have a tow rating of 10400lbs and with the without NHT you have a tow rating of 9500lbs. I have decided to get the 6.2L without NHT so I have the 3.42 rear, but I also have the 20" wheel pkg so how much do I lose for towing with 20s instead of 18s Or do I lose much? Where can I find this out. Thanks

The 3.42's are fine with the denali's cause you have all-wheel drive for all that power to be delivered to. If you get an SLT with selectable 4wd, you'll have the 8.5" rear end and 3.42 gears. If you hammer on it, you're gonna blow that rear end for sure. If you get the NHT package, you get the hybrid 9.5" rear end and have the strength you need/want for towing with that much power.

 

JMO.. but I wouldn't think that 8.5" rear end would hold up with 403hp and then... if you add taller tires someday your screwed in my book. Heck, the 5.3's with taller tires are blowing out the 8.5" rear end.

 

Since your towing a decent amount of weight, thats just more stress

And when you do get the new truck, I would LOVE to hear how well it tows compared to the 6.0 4-speed and 4.10 gears. I've been toying around for a while on getting a 2010 6.2 with the NHT package to tow my 6500 lbs trailer around. My truck currently does pretty good, but I'm curious how much better the 6-speed does with the same weight at highway speeds and 3.42 gears.

No Steven,The 6.2 will give him the 9.5" rear axle w/rear disc brakes,whether he gets the NHT pkg. or not.

Well for the amount of time I will be pulling it, I think a 9500lb rating is plenty for a 5800lb trailer. My buddy has a 07 denali and its rated for a lot less and he has no troubles.

Yep,I can see its missing......sunroof,block heater,integrated trailer brake controller,power adjustable pedals,Navigation system,and either the power sliding rear window,or the rear window defogger.

I was under the impression that the ONLY way you could get the 6.2L in any truck other than the Sierra Denali was to get it via the Max Towing pkg with comes with the 3.73. At least that is what the online truck builder forces me to do on the GMC site. That's one of the reasons I'm leaning towards Denali. Do tell...

 

I had seen on the capacities info page on the GMC site that they had listed a 6.2L 3.42 combo but figured it must have been a mistake since the same site didn't seem to let me configure one that way.

Nope,You can order the 6.2 as a separate option (and could also order the 6.0 separately for the '07-'09 model-years) without getting the "NHT" Max-Trailering pkg.

Without the NHT pkg. the 6.2 comes with 3.42's,With the NHT pkg. it comes with 3.73's (The 6.0 came w/3.73's w/o NHT,And 4.10's w/NHT on 4wd's)

No you can get the 6.2L with the 3.42 rear in it. I just bought one today. Now I am in Canada, but that shouldn't make a difference. Also you can select it on the gm Canada website.
