OK, got my truck and it checks out good at the mechanics, just needed a few light bulbs. It has 203,000 km (128,000 miles I believe) on it with factory tow package and is Carbon Grey with Pewter two-tone bottom.

 

I will likely switch to synthetic oil later this year as I plan to keep her a long time.

 

What is a typical milage that you can get out of these trucks anyway; I've heard you can drive them for a lot of k?

Welcome..

 

A well taken care of, and maintained vehicle should give you nice engine life out of it.

what motors in it? 4.3 averages about 18-19 on the highway, 4.8 and 5.3 average about 16-17 depending on how you drive, i can squeeze 20 out of my 5.3 if i drive like old people with the wind at my back :thumbs:

My truck has the 5.3L in it with K & N filter!

what motors in it? 4.3 averages about 18-19 on the highway, 4.8 and 5.3 average about 16-17 depending on how you drive, i can squeeze 20 out of my 5.3 if i drive like old people with the wind at my back :thumbs:

Welcome!

There many her on the forum that have high-mileage 5.3's. Treat it right, and it'll treat you right. ;)

Im expecting to see at least 400000 km out of our '99 K2500, has had no engine or tranny work yet to date! Only repairs were ABS module (long time ago) and standard maintenance (ball joint, wheel bearings, sway bar bushing, brakes)

Hey! Another Edmontonian! Welcome to the site. To resize pics with windows, assuming you have office I think:

 

1) right click on the picture

2) go to "open with"

3) click on "Microsoft Office Picture Manager"

4) click "Edit Pictures..." at the top

5) click "Resize" on the right tab

6) open the "Predefined width x height" drop down and select 800x600

7) hit OK below that

8) save or 'save as' (make sure it's a jpeg file either way)

 

Should be a decent size with a lot smaller file size.

Thanks 2005LT, here she is guys! Had her in the shop today and only needed a couple of light bulbs. I have 4532 engine hours on this vehicle as well.

 

I will look after her good, and turn this vehicle into mine this weekend, clean up read over owners manual, get moved in etc...

personal best: 15.7

personal worst: 12.5

 

so....its all in how you drive, actually (off topic) speaking of romping on the gas...my brother and i raced once and my brother's mustang (98gt) generally only pulls 1-2 lengths in 0-70ish and he has a tune and 10.5 inch rubbers (315s) on the back so he grips pretty well too

Yeah, I have always drove like I stole it.... But it seems to get the same mileage from 68 to 88mph........ Only varies on the changes in the blend of gas that is used at that time (spring,summer,fall,winter,etc,etc).........

 

My mothers Crown Vic gets 21mpg does not matter what you do in that car if it is moving you get 21mpg....

 

My 1995 Town Car gets 29 on the highway and 23 in the city according to the computer. Never figured it for that car..

 

The SAAB I just traded got 26-35 depending on how long you could hold the throttle before the throttle motor would die on that trip (I'm glad that thing will be somebody else POS, so is the better half tooo; I AM GLAD I GOT TO PICK THIS one out for HER)!!!

i have an older friend that told me the secret to good mileage is 50 mph and its true..i know alot of you can't handle driving that slow but it works, i accelerate slow and let the motor slowly build up...i coast instead of waiting til the last second to stand on the pedal...i take damn good care of it, its in the dealer every 3k for oil and regular maintance...have nitrogren in the tires, i don't hot rod and its dead stock i swear by gm parts...all the little stuff adds up :thumbs:

      Most say the oil temperature needs to above the boiling point of water to rid it of moisture and long enough to dry it. Many think that is about a hour at 212 F or more. Those people have never line dried cloths in a Midwest winter. Leave a pan of water sitting on the counter and eventually it all evaporates. So heat drives the time it takes. Water in oil under 175 F, the Nitration initiation temperature, is a minimum then for temperature and samples I've done that use Karl Fisher method say about a hour (in a healthy well tuned motor) over 175 F will dry it to under 800 ppm. Low enough to not be much of a factor. Motors with weak rings will take longer and the colder the air temperature the longer it takes.   On a cold motor there is also the condensation temperature. Blowby gases that contain moisture are subject to that cold cylinder wall, like sweat on a glass of ice tea. But also subject to the Law of Partial Pressures. Wear studies by GM and the DOD  indicate wear is a real issue below 85 F and a concern to 140 F but doesn't become a minimal factor until about 160 F. You know this intuitively when you see water vapor exit the exhaust pipe until the system gets above the dew point. It isn't magic, it's physics and it fascinates me. I know you didn't ask but....I over share sometimes. 😉    You keep the Camaro's high and tight.

      Move further away.   Benefit of living out - none of our cars get short cycled, plenty of warm up time.   Curious how much time/temperature it takes to drive moisture/condensation out of the engine?

      First of all sorry, I know there are a ton of transmission temperature threads...   My truck is a 2025 LZ0 High (10l89 10-speed) High Country with NHT max trailering package. The NHT package is supposed to have "enhanced cooling."   Normally the trans temp sits around 200. It seems like with any real stress it quickly jumps into the 220s (for example climbing a grade unloaded at lower speeds). I haven't towed much with this truck, but I'm concerned if it gets this hot unloaded.    I've tried a few different things to keep the temps down (tow/haul mode, sport mode, low range when that makes sense) and nothing seems to affect it.    I'm curious if others are the same behavior or if anyone has found techniques to keep the temps down. It seems like it just can't handle reduced airflow at lower speeds, even with relatively light loading.    Thanks!

      I'm at 105,000 miles on my baby Duramax. No issues yet. I hit 31 mpg's traveling through hilly terrain to a project in Colorado. I will buy another 3.0. I'm not concerned.
