OK , So I've had my truck for about a month and I'm coming up on 30,000 miles soon. My questions are when should I have fluids changed? What Maintenance items should I take care of? Tranny flush? Diff flush? T-case flush? I bought it used so I don't know what maintenance if any was done to it. I've heard every 30K for these trannys? I read somewhere here factory says 100K on tranny but that seems like alot? Any and all suggestions greatly appreciated. Thank You!!!! :lurk:

It depends a bit on your driving style. There are two service schedules in the owner's manual that give the intervals based on whether you drive in regular or severe conditions. I would check that out, all of the information you are looking for should be in there.

Although not required by the maintenance schedule, I try to change every fluid when I buy a used vehicle because you never know what the previous owner did.

I bought my 2007 Suburban in January of this year. Last weekend, I changed the oil, front diff fluid, rear diff fluid, transfer case fluid, brake fluid and 1/2 the transmission fluid (I have a fluid extractor so I pulled 3 quarts and refilled, drove for a bit and pulled another 3 quarts). I will change the power steering fluid and coolant later this spring. Now I know exactly what fluids were changed when and do not have to worry about the PO adding unapproved or inferior fluids to top up.

If you follow the standard service factory schedule you will not be changing diff, coolant, transmission or transfer case fluid until 100K miles. After doing this service and seeing the amount of metal shavings on the drain plug magnets, I am glad I did them.

Just me here..... Yeah I KNOW I KNOW GM says follow the oil monitor and BOB says WAY LONGER........ That is his engine and your engine if you wish to keep it in that long. It is 20 - 40 bucks cheep insurance that the engine stays clean and has as long a life as possible.

Engine oil & filter every 3k

Transmission oil & filter 20k every 3 times I usually flush with 20qts of new fluid.

Differential every other transmission fluid change or FIRST DAY of weird noise from differential

Transfer case same time as transmission fluid and filter 20k........

Brake fluid every time Brake pads are changed or if fluid appears brown. Brown is an indication of moisture in the system.

Air filter every 20-30k or more often if in a dusty area.

Fuel filter ever 40k if it has one.

PCV valve (providing it has one) wash out with carb and choke cleaner or replace every 30k

Coolant flush every year

plugs and wires. when a miss begins

Timing chain at 200k or when it snaps whichever is first

Who knows my family has had several automobiles go well over the 600k mark without doing anything out of regular servicing.

Not to mention the 4 delivery trucks I have at my store. We only put 60 to 100k each on them a year..... We keep them for around 6 or 7 years..... and by them 1 year old with about 50-80k on the clock. So they usually have 500 to 900k when they sell them....... Same maintenance plan.

I use castrol in my personal stuff.... But the delivery fleet gets the cheeeepest thing they have at the quick lube at the time of the oil change. i.e. it might be Exxon, Brand X, shell, chevron, Brand Z just depends on what they got cheep that time in bulk......

Edit: note I ONLY USE WIX FILTERS!!!!!

I agree. Use a quality filter and WIX is probably the best affordable filter out there.

Last month Napa had Napa Gold filters (made by WIX) for 40% off. I bought several years worth for each vehicle.
