I only need to tint my front two windows to match the rest of the truck. How hard can it be? Has anyone done this and is there a preffered brand to use? I have seen pre-cut tint on Ebay for less than $15. Worse case, I pull it off if it looks shabby.

I've never tried it but I personally want the lifetime warranty that comes with professionally installed tint and knowing it was done right. If all you need is the front two done, most tint shops are very reasonable for just the two fronts.

I've seen the pre-cut... but I think you can save yourself some money if you just do it yourself. :D

I've done it many times, it's not all that hard if you take your time. Make sure the window is nice and clean. Mix up a soapy water solution. Pre-cut the sheet to be about 1" larger overall but similar shape to your window. Wet it,.. pull the backing off the tint.. and stick it. Shift it to fit the way you need... and remember, lots of water on both the window and tint. Start working the air/water solution from one end to the other carefully not creasing the tint. If you need to lift, just re-wet and apply the tint as needed.

When you get to the edges, cut about 1/8" with a razor blade shorter/smaller than the window. I always crack the window about 2" inches and start at the top middle and work my way down and out to each end. Key to a nice job is taking your time.

Its sounds harder than it is.

good luck :lurk:

yep here in the DFW area you can get the 2 front done with Llumar by a professional shop for in the $60's

I've tried it. It looked like crap and was a waste of my time. I'd suggest just paying the $60 to avoid the headache.

I do mine myself all the time. I have done at least 10 vehicles. I usually buy precut tint from a local company and install it myself. It usually cost me $15 for just the front two windows.

I got alot of practice when I was a teenager because I always had to take it off and put it back on because I would get warnings for having it too dark.

I paid $40 for my fronts. How much do you expect to save?

The only place I can find to do it that cheap are guys doing it on the side which means I will not have any kind of guarantee. The places I have called want 70 bucks! It seems there are people here that have had success. If I can do it for 20, why not? It's not brain surgery. I will post pics one done and we can either laugh at my work or admire it.

If you want to do a good job, then you'll need a few supplies that will help the install process. First is a good handheld squeegie, and then this either premixed tint solution or make your own; you can google the mix your own solution online..

There's a proper proceedure and tricks of the trade for doing window tint. Do some research on instructions, maybe some videos (youtube) and follow those directions.

If you don't know what you're doing, it can be a PITA.........bubbles, wrinkles, hair/fibers between the tint and window, etc. I know this from personal experience, went throught about 20 feet of tint before I got it down, and I still have a hair/fiber in the side back window that has bugged be for a couple years. I think I'm going to redo that window this weekend.
