2009 5.3 Engine Shaking At Idle

Recommended Posts

My 09 Silverado with the 5.3 and 4 spd automatic trans has a shake at idle. The truck has 4,100 miles on it now.

I will be sitting there with the truck in park with the emerg brake on and every once in a while the truck will start to rock side to side.

I have noticed this several times.

I also noticed when the truck is cold and I drive down the street to the first stop sign and I make a complete stop, and I slowly release the brake just enough for the truck to start rolling, the truck starts a mild surging. I would think the V8 would be smooth all the time.

I called the local dealer to see about bringing the truck in to have them look at it. The guy said that all of the 5.3's have a loping to them. It will be smooth and then start to shake and then be smooth again. He basically told me that unless the engine light came on they really had nothing to go on. They could check the computer but he said if I had any of the HVAC system on it would cause the engine shaking to be more noticable.

To me this doesn't seem right, but that is why I am here asking if you have noticed this on your truck or heard if this is normal.

Any ideas?

mine had this same exact problem. i recently got a free superchips cortex, ran the performance tune and turned off the AFM and ran premium gas. no more issues at all, dont know if its the gas or the AFM but i know exactly what you're talking about, almost seems like it has a cam in it the way it idles

I dont know if its been considered, but could it just be the Engine mounting brackets allowing to much movement...?? On my previous 03" Jetta 1.8T engine, it moved like you mentioned and I went ahead and purchased aftermarket performance engine brackets which stopped all engine vibration.
