Dash Peeling

I recently purchased a 2007 GMC Sierra 2500HD. It appears as if the dashboard "paint" is peeling off. The dash is gray now and where it's peeling off is turning black. Why does the dash peel? Are there layers of paint on it? It looks horrible. What can I do with it?

What I have found on the dash peeling issue is that if you use an abrasive cleaners, like armor all, or anything else that is chemcial based it will eat away at the coating on the dash. It can be repaired to almost factory look. Same thing happened to my truck the dash peeled on the passengers side on the top of the dash and I had to have a professional fix it. Check with a local body shop they can probably hook you with someone who can repair it. It only cost me $75 to get mine fixed, but it depend on how big the peeling area is. Hope that helps.
