Orange?

Whoa... just typed in my VIN and got my truck colour as "Bright Red (81U)" but my truck is not red!!!!

What gives?!?!?!

I had a 2000 Silvy with the Sunset Metallic Orange...just FYI...

The only thing I can think of was that it was a late 00 model... I sold it in 2003, but I can look to find the VIN to prove it!

They did have an RPO code 71U color for 2000,I ran your VIN,On your build sheet its called MADRID RED METALLIC,Now in my touch-up paint book its called RED ORANGE,Its WA code is WA7753

 

For '01 RPO code 71U is called SUNSET ORANGE METALLIC and its WA code is WA633H

 

So 71U is different from 2000 to 2001

The 2000 color has more red in it. the 2001 is more orange.

Yeah,I remember the "other" color (the WA7753) Its a shade off of Sunset Orange,But boy...the pictures you posted Doug sure do look like Sunset Orange.

But like I said,if I were to order touch-up paint for the 2000 you had,I would order the WA7753 color code that they list as "Red Orange"

No worries...I wasn't trying to make a big deal out of this or anything. I swear side by side, its REALLY hard to tell the difference, even though the pics of mine do look quite a bit more "red" than the dually posted below it.

 

But as you guys pointed out, different codes and different names. No biggie...

 

OP-- Get the "orange" truck! Its a great color and its different!

2001 Sunset Metallic Orange in the "c" varient which is the darkest. the Sunset Orange paint had 3 varients from light to dark. This is my truck and i havent seen another z71 ext cab with the options my truck has,dont know the numbers but they are limited.

IMO its one of the best colors GM has had and I know there are a couple different variants of it. My 06 corette is Sunset Orange. Back in 2001 it was one of my favorite colors though on the trucks, camaros and firehawks. I wish they made sunset orange metallic on more trucks than the 2001's. I have seen a few in my area. An sunset orange silverado extended cab flareside is one of my favorite trucks. Unfortunately now all the 2001's are old and beat up. Sunburst orange is nice but not as nice as sunset orange. I'm still unsure of Inferno Orange on the trucks.

Yes, Sunset Orange Metallic ... 71U Code is the color of my 2001 Z28 (Sara), I love the color (very limited production), however I have seen this color on Chevy trucks, and Avalanches (sp), and I feel it is to much color for the massive surface. On a smaller vehicle it looks killer.

 

"MADRID RED METALLIC" was a 2000 color, and is more reddish in color, that was a prelude to SOM in 2001.

GM also offers/offered? a Sunset orange color for fleet only order trucks: 54U C WA258L

 

The sunset orange metallic 71U is different.

 

GM also has a Tangier Orange fleet only color:

WA9417, Tangier Orange

The only thing I was wondering is if these trucks actually came in Orange in 2001? I know I've never seen one that color?

 

There is also a fleet color orange. Out DOT trucks come in orange. GM required a 1 year lead time to build them.
