1997 Sonoma 4.3 Fluids

im helping out a guy and im trying to find out that fluids and what amounts his 1997 sonoma takes. And he is wanting to use redline oils what are the kinds that cross over to the gmc type?

well hes got a 5 speed not a automatic so that kicks 14 qts off the list and replaced with 2.9 qts for the tranny... i know they list a gm fluid for the tranny does it cross over to 80-90 gear oil? theats what 99% of car/truck manuel trannys use... some hondas use 10/30. if so he should need 3 qts mt90 redline for the tranny 3 qts diff oil not sure if its lsd or not but with or without addative. hes running mobile1 in the motor for a year or so now.

The 5-speed tranny in that Sonoma probably uses Synchromesh trans fluid, I know it does for a fact if it's 2wd and a 4.3. Pennzoil is the only other company that i know of that makes this stuff and I've bought it from Autozone. I'd be careful on what kind of fluid you run in that.

Well it would be nice to know these things

Give a full description of the vehicle when you are asking questions man...you'll get a more complete answer.

 

So its a 4.3L 5-speed, is it 2wd or 4wd?

A little expensive if you ask me, to use redline racing oil in a sonoma...

 

But he will need about 14 quarts of trans fluid

5 quarts of engine oil 5W30

And about 3 quarts of Gear oil, 5 if its a 4WD...75W90

Thats a pretty hefty bill...about 1000 bucks in fluids...

 

He could Half that bill by running Amsoil or Mobil 1, and would get just as much protection.
