I'm not getting a lot of help with the search option. So My Q's are 1. with the stock head unit to replace it do i need a kit? I heard that the head unit controls a lot of things. 2. If i was to stick with the stock head unit, Can i add subs and a amp to it? 3. If i can't add subs to the stock head unit can i add a small amp like say 500 watts to make the stock speakers sound better? I don't have bose. I have an ext. cab with 4 speakers, one in each door and the 2 up top(tweeters i think) for a total of 6. The head unit is just a single cd player. Also I don't care about onstar and my truck didn't come with XM. Thanks for the help, Justin

Some units require a dash receiver kit and some won't, but you definitely will need an adapter harness that will allow all your door and alarm chimes along with the blinker "click" noises to work. If I were you, I'd stay away from trying to add too much onto the stock HU (subs/amps) , just start over with a quality unit and upgrade your speakers. The stock GM stuff is pretty lame. Go to crutchfield.com and select "outfit my car" to see some of your options then you can shop around for deals.

If you get a head unit over a certain amount of money(I think over $100, you will have to anyways for what you are wanting) then the GM Adapter will be half price. It will ask you if you want to add it to your cart whenever you select the head unit, just make sure you have put what car you have in on the website so it tells you if stuff will fit.

I don't think you will need a 500 watt amp for 4 speakers, unless you are getting some expensive speakers that can actually use all of that wattage.

I have an 08 Silverado 1500 Extended Cab, and I have my entire system already mapped out. Whatever your budget it, you have to account for $100 worth of wiring I would say if you add an amp into the mix. I really don't know much(have learned a lot doing research past couple days), but if you post your budget I will post some of the stuff I was looking at.

Crutchfield guys on the phone are great, they made me realize I had a 2 channel head unit when I needed a 4 channel and they have access to everything you need to know about your truck and what will fit.
