How Is Your Gmt900 Holding Up?

So you bought a lemon and have a crappy dealer. Doesn't mean you should have bought a Tundra (tell your wife to get her nose out of Consumer Reports magazine) -- it means you should find another dealer to look into your issues and fix them under warranty and/or pursue the lemon law IF another more reputable dealer can't fix the problems for you.

I totally agree with you aout the lemon law. However my wifes opinion towards the Tundra is based on her past expierence with our old Tundra and has nothing to do with Consumer Reports Magazines.

I will definetly look for a differnt dealership. The reason I considered "Dutton Motor" was that it was the closest to me and it's a Cadi/GMC dealership, so I figured they would have top tier costumer service since they are a luxury dealership.

About 6 GMC dealerships closes in my area, including the one I bought my truck from. I checked online and it looks like the next closest dealer is about 25-30 miles away.

I guess I'll have to make the hoof to get better service:-)

It sucks that you have to do that but it sure sounds like that dealer is a joke. A bad dealership experience can sure sour you on a vehicle (and sometimes even a brand). Simple problems should simply be solved... not have dumb excuses made.

Good luck! I've had MUCH better experiences with my local GM dealers.

Thanks.

I should mention that I have had several other GM products in the passed and have mostly had positive experiences.

Including my 2001 Chevy Tahoe LT, which I kept for almost five years until some lowlife stole it :)

Lets not mention my 1999 Cadi STS (Steaming Tower of Sh-T)

Just looking for an update, especially from LTZ owners. I'm in the market, and I'm curious if I should go GMT900 or not.

Electronics (Power fold mirrors, seats, remote start, climate control etc.)

Sunroof (if you have one: Leaks, rattles?? Would you check the box again?)

Leather (wearing well?)

Body/frame (squeaks, rattles, vibrations?)

I can honestly say I havent had a single issue with my truck. On the other hand, I try and take very good care of it.

I have the 2007 GMC version of the LTZ with every option with the exception of NAV, and sunroof. One thing I know is my leather has worn great! still looks 90% I'd say.

I have owned it for 33 months, and have 44,800 miles on it.

I would say, go for it! :)

I'm liking my 09' for the most part. Only got 8,000 miles on it now.

Couple of items I don't like:

- rattling/creaking interior...I ignore by turning the radio up

- grease-less front end parts

- thin sheet metal and paint (i've got a rust spot on the roof already!!)

- i've got oil leaking from above the oil filter somewhere....main seal? :)

Last, but certainly not least.......

in BAD need of a blackbear tune!

Socal not really truck country, they probably cater to Vettes ,camaros, escalades

Try a dealer that caters to the truck market.Where I come from trucks are over 50% of the vehicles on the lot and are front and centre

2008 5.3L 2wd extra cab 4spd 3.73 rear.

Love my truck! My biggest gripes are the driveshaft clunk and the creeky interior. I have an ext cab and get an annoying rattle in the driver's side B pillar, but have learned to live with it. It usually occurs when winding onto a freeway on ramp or on bumpier roads. The lint collection on ebony cloth seats was apparent, but if you're getting an LTZ with leather, shouldn't be an issue then.

I experienced the lifter tick, but once I switched over to synthetic, quiet as can be. Penn Ultra and Penn Plat have run the best in my engine. Always had good luck with brakes on my Chevy's. Got 43k out of the stock 275/55/20 GY Eagles and would have gotten 50k. Not bad for OEM on 20's IMO.

Engine is powerful and silky smooth. I do wish the 1-2 shift was a little stronger, but nothing a BB tune can't take care of. I've owned 2 gmt 800 and now the 900. I also owned first gen Tundra. Hands down, my GM's have outperformed.

2008 SLE with no issues. 12,000 miles with half of those pulling a 6500 lb 26 f camper, the rest either a boat or a pair of Sea-Doo's.

The only thing I can complain about is the lifter click if it sits up a while that disappears after a few seconds of running, and a slight weep at the rear crank seal. (Never a drop on the floor, just a moist film on the bellhousing). Maybe the Mobil One since I heard synthetic will cause a little weeping ?

No creaks or rattles in my leather interior. Oh, it is 5.3/4 speed auto Z71 Crew Cab.

I have even rotated the tires twice, and the TPMS worked perfectly on reprogram.

I am also a stickler for maintainence, and she stays indoors when not being used.

07 Sierra SLE-2 Z71 4 speed with 43k

-oil consumption in excess of 1 qt per 2k(around 22k), dealership changed the valve cover(warranty), now less than a qt per 2k, still don't like it but can live with it

-high mount brake light sprung a leak, inside of cab getting wet, dealership repaired(warranty)

-passenger side window doesn't lock, no big deal

-leather still looks great

-OEM Goodyear tires still have good tread left

-wiper blades are just now getting bad

Outstanding truck! I will buy another if or when the time comes, will get the 6 speed though.

Flame on..... I'm just being honest

No flaming. However, you should spend some time on the Tundra forums to form a full opinion. I have kept up on one since I bought my truck in 08, as I seriously considered a Tundra. There's been a *lot* of folks having their air induction pumps go south, which puts the the truck into limp mode. At $2k per side, it can be a $4k repair! Nothing against the new Tundra, but it's a completely different animal than the 06 and earlier models.

Front rotors replaced under warranty.

Black interior cloth replaced under warranty.

Oil pan leak fixed under warranty.

Clunking in the driveshaft, I live with it.

It runs well and I have used the bed of it many times for hauling rock, stine, boards, equipment and other things.

The rear tailgate handle feels like it's going to break everytime I pull to release the tailgate. Seems cheap, same for the door handles as others have mentioned. The hood release is the same way. Even for plastic that thing feels like it will break off everytime I pull it. I wish GM would spec some higher grade components and parts. It's a truck, make then truck tough. The sheet metal is the thinnest I've ever seen.

Mine just turned 10,000 miles in 2.5 years.

If I had to do it all over would I buy it again? That's a good question. To be honest, probably not. Perhaps I should have rented one for a weekend.

It runs well, does its job and so far, no other items have needed attention except for the ones already mentioned.

The truck's OK, I'm just disappointed in the low quality of materials and components.

only problem i had was replacement of stabiltrac sensor in the steering column..........09 10k miles

oh yea, had the tires rotated and balanced... i normally rotate myself... but i let a tire place do it, and make them check the balance.. every single one was out of balance.. so it had to come from GM like that.... wtf??? i did have some vibration, but i went from a 98 z71 to this one, so little vibrations i was used to... I should have brought it to the dealer ship, but i failed... anyways its right now....

What's with all the leaks?! I just bought a 2010 Sierra All Terrain crew cab 6.2. I sold my 2003 Silverado SS because I couldn't take the interior rattle and lack of passenger room anymore. Truck had no issues ever other than a fuel line rusting out, and the oil cooler lines were weeping (typical), steering clunk (also typical but a quick fix). Other than that, not 1 single leak on an 03 AWD with 74,000k. I bought this new Sierra thinking that they had really improved on a lot, this thread is scaring me. Am I in for it? The problem is, there are no other truck options. Ford sucks in every way inside and out, don't trust Dodge tranny, inside of Tundra looks like the Discovery space shuttle cockpit not to mention those amaaaazing looking tail lights, Nissan titan...what is that a first aid kit that pops out of the rear quarter of the bed?! I only buy GM trucks because they look great inside and out, great fit and finish, nothing gaudy about it, and after owning a 93 S10, 96 S10, 98 Sonoma, 98 Envoy, and 03 Silverado SS I have nothing to complain about.

Just keep an eye on it and take it in for warranty service if you have a leak. Mine had a very minor oil pan gasket leak when new (probably a nick in the seal). Warranty repair and zero fluid since. It's a non-issue to me, as leaks are more a function of the type of seal. If they gooped it up with liquid rubber at the factory, it would never leak... but you'd be pissed if you ever had to pull it. GM is using rubber/metal gaskets on many of the matings, which is great for tear-down. The only problem is that *any* imperfection can cause a small leak.
