How Is Your Gmt900 Holding Up?

Mine has been about perfect so far. 2.5 years and 18K.

I wish that I could have a truck for 2.5 years and only put 18K on it...however even though my truck isn't my primary vehicle...I can't resist the temptation to drive it! :) My 09 is just short of 10K....

I had an 07 Sierra Extended Cab SLT and I now have an 09 which is pretty much equipped the same...

2007 I got when the New GMT 900's first showed up...had the following issues:

*Power Seat Harness kept Shorting causing Power Seat to be Inoperable...we probably battled this for at least a year, then one day it just quit, and I never had trouble again!

*Auto Climate Control Aspirator which mounts in the Headliner had to be Replaced...it worked fine, but was just noisy...there was a TSB on this...

*2 Chrome GM Accessories Door Handles....just like Zembonez and Bish were saying...they broke right at the Bolt

*Sunroof Drains Plugged one time...making the Headliner a little wet, however nothing was harmed

*Had Driver Leather Seat Bottom Replaced at about 32K because it was starting to wear....

All in All the 07 was pretty much perfect, and I was picky....I'd say it was my favorite truck! Very well built, and a first year model on the redesign so you have to expect a few bugs....

My 09 has had no issues to speak of, aside from the Chrome Clad wheels which were peeling...my dealer just replaced them under warranty, and now I'm going to put 20's on it anyway...

These trucks Run Great, Drive Solid, and I think all Around are Great! Much of an Improvement over the 800's!

The only thing I wish I could've had is the 6.2L and Z71 together, but I took the Z71 over the 6.2L

I have a Z71 with the 6.2 :)

I have a 2007 GMC Sierra SLE Crew 4x4 with 87k. I haven't really had any problems but I am pretty crazy about maintenance.

I had a yaw sensor go at 35k that was replaced under warranty and I just had my left hub replaced under the powertrain warranty. Other than that just maintenance - Oil every 5k. Trans and Diffs at 50k. TC at 25,50,&75k. I put a Truxx 2.5/1 on at 38k along with 285/70/17 BFG ATs and haven't had any real issues there. I think I have same spring creak that Ryan has

Mine has been very good with the drivetrain, not so much with other little crap.

AC pipe leaking replaced under warranty 1 month

Right front shock blown replaced under warranty 11K miles

Right front shock blown again 40K miles - bitched to get it covered

driver door handle broken off replaced under warranty - 5K miles

pass door handle broken off replaced under extended warranty 37K

rear pass door handle broken off replaced under extended warranty 45K

Transmission shift reprogram under warranty 6K

4 OEM 20" wheels replaced under original warranty at 55K miles. Bitched at 5K miles and they greed to a one time replacement up to 3 years 60K.

I'm almost to 60K miles now. Vehicle has been a JOY to drive. Just seems every six months something annoying breaks. No excuse for breaking door handles IMO Cheap plastic. Wheels are just cheap Chinese junk. As far as performance and handling, I get impressive performance and ride for a 6000lb brick! My mother claims mine rides better on the highway than her Benz.

Holy cow! What do you use to open the door... a baseball bat? :)

I've never even heard of anybody here having to replace a door handle. You guys need to learn to open a door.

JUUUUST KIDDING.

One of my GM OEM Chrome handles in now broken. Damn thing is snapped off where the bolt goes in. Unacceptable... It has never seen any abuse and it;s the passenger side. It's a shitty design made of cheap plastic for sure.

We're not even talking winter frozen door. I broke 2 of them myself and one of my kids broke the third. I could hardly complain to her after breaking two myself. I cringe every time I have to open a slightly frozen door as I think the handle is going to pop off in my hand. All three of mine broke at the part that receives the bolt. Why (besides cost) would you make the part that gets tugged several times a day out of plastic?????

Mine broke in warm weather. Hell the passenger door probably hasn't been opened 50 times in my truck's life. It's a cheap design for sure.

I have a 09 Sierrra z71 5.3 with the 6 speed and I love my truck. I have 13k on her now and nothing has gone with my truck. I take this truck often down frozen lakes, offroad and haul lots with it and never let me down.

I've had my '09 for just under a year (26,000KM) and I have had only a few issues. First was a crank position sensor @ 400KM, then an oil leak where the cooler lines enter the block. I could mention the delicate paint, but I won't :) .

I have a 2010 Yukon 2500 4x4 and haven't had any problems really, but on the 1st oil change I'll have the dealer fix 2 things.

1. Pulls to the left (most noticeable on the freeway and it's quite noticeable)

2. There is a spot on the roof that doesn't look like it was painted very well (no clear coat or something)

Other than that it drives like a champ. Only 1,000 miles on it so far though.

so you gave up getting the 6.2L, 6spd trans AND 14-bolt rear axle just so you could have upgraded shocks, different jounce bumpers and some Z71 stickers? :)

I have a 2009 GMC Sierra 1500 5.3L 6sp with just over 13K miles.

I know I'm gonna get flamed for this, but WTH I'm just being honest.

*The interior rattles worst than a tin can full of bolts.

*Front brakes squeak and vibrate.

*Driveshaft has a loud clunk and sounds like it's gonna snap at any moment.

*Window lock on passenager side doesn't work

*Fabric on seats is a lint magnet

*Radio reception is horrible. Almost sounds like the antenna might be disconnected

Just to name a few issues I've encountered so far.

****NOTE****

Here's the dealers (Dutton Motors in Riverside, Ca) response to the issues.

*Noisy interior* "well buddy trucks are work vehicles and not meant to be very quiet"

*Front brake vibration and squeak* "This will happen if you tow your SeaDoo's (2500lb) down from the mountains. Heavy loads will overheat your brakes".

*Driveshaft clunk* "It's just a programing issue. We'll contact you as soon as we have a fix".

*Passenger window not locking* "That's the way they come from the factory".

*Lint magnet seat fabric* "Vacuum weekly and use lint tape once a month".

*Bad radio reception* "A lot of our customers upgrade to aftermarket head units".

I traded in my old Tundra for the GMC Sierra because the GMC was $6K cheaper than a comparible 2009 Tundra and I liked the look of the Sierra a lot more.

Now I always hear the wife say "SEE I TOLD YOU TO GET THE TUNDRA INSTEAD"!!!!!!!

Flame on..... I'm just being honest

So you bought a lemon and have a crappy dealer. Doesn't mean you should have bought a Tundra (tell your wife to get her nose out of Consumer Reports magazine) -- it means you should find another dealer to look into your issues and fix them under warranty and/or pursue the lemon law IF another more reputable dealer can't fix the problems for you.

I totally agree with you aout the lemon law. However my wifes opinion towards the Tundra is based on her past expierence with our old Tundra and has nothing to do with Consumer Reports Magazines.

I will definetly look for a differnt dealership. The reason I considered "Dutton Motor" was that it was the closest to me and it's a Cadi/GMC dealership, so I figured they would have top tier costumer service since they are a luxury dealership.

About 6 GMC dealerships closes in my area, including the one I bought my truck from. I checked online and it looks like the next closest dealer is about 25-30 miles away.

I guess I'll have to make the hoof to get better service:-)

It sucks that you have to do that but it sure sounds like that dealer is a joke. A bad dealership experience can sure sour you on a vehicle (and sometimes even a brand). Simple problems should simply be solved... not have dumb excuses made.

Good luck! I've had MUCH better experiences with my local GM dealers.
