Paint Chrome Bumpers?

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if painting my chrome bumpers gloss black would give it a more sporty look, or make it look like sh*t. I want many opinions and criticism on the subject! This is my first topic so I don't know how to resize my pics so I can upload them. But, when I figure out, if I do, I will post pics of what it is now, and if I get the go ahead, what it looks like after I'm done.

Ironically, I want to do the same with my truck, but just the front only. I had one body shop tell me that they couldn't paint the chrome bumper, but would paint one from GM that's primered for $250. Another body shop told me $150 to paint the chrome one my color (silver birch), he said they'd put a chemical on the chrome to "etch" it, then prime it, and then paint it to make it look factory.

Sry, if I got too far off.

I think the gloss black on yours would look awesome!

Thanks, I was gonna take the spray gun to mine, after sanding it, with some self-etching base coat, then flat black it, then finish it off with some shiny protective enamel. Sorry about that disgracefully written sentence!

Sounds like you got it figured out! I'm anxious to see your results.

I just don't think black bumpers on a white truck would look right but that's just my opinion. I would definitely try to find some pics to see what it looks like before you go ahead and do it.

That's easy for you to say, you're lucky you have a black truck. I wish mine was black. Yeah, it's hard to find pictures of them like that, I guess it'll be unique if I do it.

Try Photoshopping it first. It isn't exactly a bolt-on/off mod.

You just have to know what it's going to look like and be absolutely sure this is what you want before you go ahead and do it.

Yeah, it isn't exactly a bolt on/off type mod, maybe I'll just go ahead and install my 2" drop until I get enough opinions to support what I wanna do. Should I paint them white instead?

My black SD came with painted front/back bumpers, and I love the look (as it color matches the truck). I did color match the front on my 2000 Pewter truck (body shop sanded the grill/front valence and painted it to match). That looked really good.

On the back, it may look weird due to the black plastic step on the top of the bumper.

Well, I was gonna get my 2" drop on the pickup today, but the plans changed. I got up under the truck, laying on my back on the grass underneath the truck, and I got out two bolts for the hitch. Stupid GM had to put the hitch right in the way of the bottom shackle bolt! :D Those bolts were tight and I put my arms on the ground to rest for a second, and all the sudden I feel this thing crawl up my arm(I didn't care at first but then I felt this shock-like pain). The pain felt like I grabbed a wet extension cord(kind of a surge like feeling). I looked at the top of my arm and it was a brown recluse spider, needless to say I freaked out and hit my head on the hitch, getting up. I had to go to the hospital and I just got back, this is gonna suck, I can already feel the skin in my arm dying. :)
