Drive Line Clunk

Like the title says I have got a driveline clunk on my 04 silverado Z71 ext cab. It only does it, or I only hear it, when I am going slow and am on the gas then let off and coast for a minute, then press the gas again. It does it when I press the gas again. I have 145k miles on original everything and the truck pulled trailers often by the previous owner. It sounds like slack coming out of something somewhere any ideas what it may be?

Thanks

Michael

could be the glorious slip yoke issue, could be play in the U joints in the driveshaft, could be your diff..its hard saying man..your best bet would be to have somebody slowly drive the truck while you walk along and listen for the source, otherwise take it to the dealer...my 04 will make a clunk when switching from D to R from a dead stop but nothing while moving, besides the exhaust click

I had the same problem. Take the driveshaft out (by removing the four small bolts at the rear U-joint) and liberally grease the internal splines inside the driveshaft yoke. I just used HD bearing grease. Like magic, the clunk disappeared... for now.

i have the same problem in my 06... Ive had it for quite a long time tho... Do you think its a possible issue if future breakage? or just an annoyance clunk?

thanks for the replies so far guys. I have checked the u-joints when it started doing it way back when it has just finally gotten to where I just want to fix it. I will try greasing the slip yoke to see if that fixes it. I always fix my own stuff so no trip to the dealer for me lol. Any further advice would just be great for those that have had this problem before

grease the hell out of the slip yoke and see what happens, grease is a band aid, i'm not sure if its a 100% fix....to the guy that asked if its damageing, i've had the clunk for well over 2 years now with no problems...i had the yoke greased and it helped for awhile but with the dandy winters and the crude summers here it came back...

It sure sounds like the slip yoke.

It's really, really easy to lube it.

But like ^^^ he said...It'll come back eventually. It's a good thing it's not hard to grease
