Supercharger

Going through the research and decision-making about my truck and what I'd like to put in it. Just about settled on an engine block and headers, but I'm trying to figure out whether or not I wanna do a supercharger or not. Anybody have any suggestions? I've loved the look and stats from Magnachargers and ProChargers, but I wanted to get opinions. Any takers?

I have heard lots of good things about the magnuson superchargers, plus you can get them, and a custom tune all through black bear performance. They are great people and justin really knows his stuff.

We have Magnachargers on all our vehicles, great kits that are probably the most complete on the market. We have quite a few customers running Prochargers, decent kits as well, a little bit different power range.

Do you by chance have any numbers on the Magnacharger? HP and torque?

What are your goals? How are you going to use the truck? Street? Strip? Towing?

How much power are you looking to make? Are you going iron block with forged internals?

Need more info!

Check out www.magnacharger.com, they have quite a few dyno sheets of vehicles. Our vehicles have other mods done to them as well.

+1 on the Magnacharger.

Put on in my 5.3L 2000 Silverado. Huge difference in power, nil effect to fuel economy (unless you had it pegged to the floor), and it was a very comprehensive hit. Put it on when the odo had 25000 km on it, sold the truck 8 years later with 135000km on it with not a hint of problems.

I bought the kit, and did the install myself. I think it took 8-10 hours (taking my time on it). Only thing I needed was a tool to unhook the fuel line from the fuel rail. Hit had everything else you'd need. (I mean EVERYTHING). You could basically buy the kit, drive to the middle of nowhere and put it on without worrying about missing a "widget" or needing a "gizmo" to make it fit.

I liked it since it gave gobs of bottom end torque, and having sealed bearings, you don't have to worry about oil lines, etc.

How much different is the power band between the two?

if it was me buddy i would go with the pro-charger OR a turbo kit...specifically STS rear mount with an intercooler. they are badass. magnachargers ive heard and read are good too but pro-charger is much more efficient. i just recently had a buddy put on a STS on a half ton with a 5.3. and their is like NO lag and underhood temps are awesome. and it makes good constant power....with the screw type it takes power to make power. JMO.

Take a look at the Whipple supercharger kits. They use a Lysholm screw compressor which is more efficient at higher boost levels than the roots type.

I don't know that it's more efficient than the new rotor designs Magnuson is using. Not saying Whipple is bad by any stretch (they're quite awesome, I've had one), but the newer maggies are da bomb!

A lot.

Magnuson (positive displacement, roots type) starts making FULL boost around 2000 rpms (Whipple will be the same), whereas a Procharger (centrifugal type) builds boost as RPM's climb (Vortech is the same type).

+1 On a truck, I'd prefer the roots type to give more low end torque to get that tank moving. On a car, I probably would go the centrifugal type since you probably won't have the traction off the line, and it's power builds with RPM.

Not to mention it has a sweet growl, and an awesome sound as the engine revs up.

My TVS1900 barely whines at all. I guess the new rotor designs are just a ton quieter. My Whipple whined like a little girl.

A fool would go with a centrifugal unit on a these trucks, the magna is nice because its roots type, BUT this twin screw behaves the same as magna but should be more efficient...
