06 Tnr Nav Radio "red Gps" Icon Question

I have read it both ways.......that the red GPS letters displayed in the upper left indicate the radio is or is not receiving the GPS signal?

 

I have the "red GPS" displayed, yet the clock, time-zone, year, day, date, hour etc have updated after an unpplug of the radio which to me would indicate it has been updated through GPS.......

 

Any help greatly appreciated......

How long has it been plugged back in? It does take some time for the radio to reacquire its signal.

 

Also the clock doesn't get its signal through GPS, it gets it either through the Radio Data System for FM, or through an XM Satellite.

Had the radio out to install an ipod interface......hooked everything back up and it then shows my location

as downtown Detroit.....GM HQ (default?) I'd bet.....still in the garage, I manually "relocate" on the map screen, take it out on the road

for about 5 miles on the interstate. Looks like it is tracking on the map ok etc......but still shows the "red gps" icon.

 

I knew the date time etc was either sat or XM so that answers that....thanks.....

 

I guess I'll recheck all connections and try a new GPS antenna if everything wiring and hook-upwise looks ok....
