2500hd Won't Do A Burnout

I know this is a stupid question but i just bought a 2004 silverado 2500hd 6.0l 4:10 4x4 ex cab and can not get the thing to do a burnout either holding the break or punching it. Is there some type of traction controll? Even my sonoma would lay some rubber down

I don't have any problems lighting them up on my '08 duramax!

Hmmm, never tried with my Duramax. Think I'll give it shot when it's time to replace my tires.

 

Oh, back to the question. My only thought is to make sure your Stabilitrak is off when you try.

torque management and other nannys will try to fizzle your burn out efforts.....p.s save your powertrain and do burnouts in a beater

Why would you want to? Like posted earlier. Buy a beater for doing burnouts. It's a 4x4 2500. It's not supposed to do burnouts it's supposed to pull a house off it's foundation

while i agree with the others... that i see no point in doing a burnout in a 4x4 truck like this (it really doesnt impress anyone...at all)...its your truck so do as you please

 

there is torque management that makes doing burnouts harder.

 

also, are you doing it right? your 2500HD has strong brakes.... so if you're standing on that brake pedal and not letting up on it, then you'll never get those tires to spin

I can do a burnout at will, just hit the gas and both tires spin until I let up. Also put it in tow haul and can pull a house of its foundation, lol.

On newer vehicles there are throttle restrictions while the brake is applied so "hot braking" is not effective. They may have limited ignition timing on the older models that are not fly by wire. Not sure what your truck has. So that is likely why it will not "light em up" with the brake applied.

 

My 02 Avalanche was extremely limited in reverse. When backing a trailer up hill I had to use low range. It did not want to go over 2k rpms and it felt like the parking brake was on. I never understood that one.

Neither of my gmt-800s 01 and 04 4x4 x-cab 6.0 4:10 would do a burnout !

My gmt-900 won't either! Yet my buds similar 1/2 tons with the 5.3 will

smoke them up the block!

 

Blame it on the GM nannies aka torque mgmt.....................

 

If I want to put on a smoke show I bust out the Z-28 or GTO!

the motor is more then capable of smoking the tires, but GM put in features to stop special people like you from smoking the tires and nuking the drivetrain...there is no sense in a burn out, it pisses people off more then it impresses them, i just shake my head when i have to listen to the ungodly sound and then walk through the smell of ass and burnt rubber......take 200 bucks and go buy a hoopty and go smoke the tires on it till it blows up then tow it to a scrap yard like your truck is built to do....

It's all in the technique. Gas, brake hard to get the weight off the ass end a bit, simultaneously ease up on the brake and hit the gas. I've done them, but everyone else is right... Getting the tires to break loose stresses the hell out of the drivetrain.

for all you guys that had nothing good to say besides burnouts are stupid. i did not buy the truck to sit there and do burnouts i was just suprised that when you get on it hard the truck will not spin the tires. If i want to have a smoke show thats what my monte carlo ss is for.

Thats funny, I just did a 3 block long burnout in my 86ss today.

 

Built 350 helps...

hey the guy paid for 300+ horsepower he wants to be able to use it. It's his decision whether or not he wants to burn up some tires or not. Plus it's pretty embarresing when you pull up to your buddies and your new truck you just took out a loan on can't even do a burnout. If you get a custom tune from such companies as blackbear, nelson, or wheatly they can take torque manegment. also do remember since the GMT-800's most of these trucks have had disc brakes all the way around

My 04 2500HD does it easy, it throws you back in the seat when kicked down to pass. I did put a cold intake system on it and it made a big difference, could feel the extra power. And since they have a drive train warranty of 100k on the newer ones the torque management has gotten worse.
