oldmann Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 I am tired of looking at my ugly exhaust pipe. What to do? I hate exhaust tips because you can always see the end of them. I feel like a poser with one of those. Paint it black? maybe. What about a 24" long tip that is welded where it cannot be seen. What about spray galvinize? I would like to make the pipe a dump also. I am tired of black soot on the paint of the rear box side.
Matt_ Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Cut the exhaust just after the hanger over the axle... done
jblakeney Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Get some 00 Steel Wool and some 0000 Steel Wool also one can of lubricant of your choice (oil based thou, used WD-40). Clean the pipe, allow to dry, take the 00 wool clean pipe till shine starts, wipe pipe clean, now re-lubricate the pipe and take the 0000 and clean pipe. This will polish your tail pipe. Notice it will shine up quite well. Dunnno if it will do what you like. But it will clean the pipe VERY GOOD almost polish it.. I use to do this to all of my vehicles but I have not in a while.... Since I have been putting cat backs on.... I do not do it any more. Jbo
OH1 Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 This is why I am building my own exhaust. Build to suit and the have the whole tail pipes chromed. Still cheapish and I get what I want. I got a local estimate for cleaning, prepping, and chroming two complte tail pipes $125. Yeah. I hate seeing the chrome tips and the rusty/nasty pipes as well.
dirtracer151 Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 I have a Gibson dual rear exit. I was not happy with the way they looked coming out under the rear bumper so i put the tips on right behind the hangars. I like this much better. A word of caution before cutting/modifying exaust. I had a friend do this and his exaust was blowing hot air near his brake lines. It was causing the fluid to boil and he would loose his brakes. This is why i didn't dump the tips on top or in front of the rear end. Excuse the dirty tips please.
BigBlueLB756 Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 This is what happens when you cut 31" off the stock tailpipe and install a JEG'S 2 3/4"x 12" ss tip. And it sounds better, too. That ought to cover it!
