Allison Trany

I'm looking into a Yukon XL 2500 with the 8.1L in it. Will this gas eater have the Allison trany or is that only for the deisel boys?

Allison in pickups with the diesel. 6.0L gas motors in the HD series get a six speed Hydromatic.

Pickups with the 8.1L gasser also got the Allison.

the 80s aren't bad trannys either, but yes like posted above 8.1s in pickups got allisons along with every duramax

the yukon/suburban dont/cant fit the allison, my 04 yukon 2500 8.1 has the 4l85e, and i love it, ive had allisons in 8.1 and duramax pickups, and your not missing much the 80e/85e are great transmissions,

i just pulled my buddys boat home for him, boat&trailer was close to 15,000 lbs pulled/towed great no hesitations or struggling

I've had both the Allison 1000 and the 4l85e. They are BOTH excellent trannys and both served me well.

 

For some reason, Allison has the name, but in actual service the Allison and the 80s trannys are equally GREAT.

Thanx, at least I feel better about a used trany with 90K on it, even if it's not got "the name".

My boss said his dad has a 2003 2500hd with a 6.0 gas engine and an Allison. He did say that he had to special order it like that though.

I can tell you thats NOT true...They never put the Allison behind the 6.0 gas engine,Special ordered or not,get me the VIN...I'll run a build sheet on it.

Yea i was gonna say, the allison was 8.1 and duramax only.. the allison wouldnt bolt up to a 6.0

the 6.0 in 03 didnt make enough power or torque to ever need an allison
