Please Help Me Befor The Dealer Rapes Me!

2000 Chevy Silverado getting codes P0300, P0301, and p0131.

 

I’m getting these codes on my 2000 Silverado 1500 series truck with 5.3 motor also this is a 2 wheel drive.

 

Truck has no power on acceleration.

 

Cylinders 1, 3, 5, 7 are fouled out.

 

Truck has 140,000 miles

 

Every now and then I get p0301 code

 

I’m always getting code p0300

 

In now getting code p0131 after replacing the o2 sesor on bank 1 position 1

 

What have I done?

 

Changed all plugs

 

Changed wires

 

Replaced intake manifold gasket

 

Independently changed out every coil pack one at a time with a new coil.

 

Replaced fuel filter.

 

Replaced fuel pump 10,000 miles ago

 

All spark plugs where also changed 10,000 miles ago with E3 plugs

 

Rerplaced all 8 fuel injectors with bone yard injectors.

 

I ohm out all the injectors cold and there was no variances and I also ohm them all out hot with a slightly higher reading with no dramatic variances .

 

Replaced fuel regulator

 

I went to the Chevy dealer and they told me that the upper o2 was bad on driver’s side and the catalytic converter may also be bad on driver’s side. I had a muffler shop cut the cat out and inspected it. Cat was visually fine with no blockage or rattling.

 

All of this has cost me 305.00 with my own labor. I’m worried about taking this back to the dealer. I don’t care to take this to an average mechanic as to this is probable over the average corner mechanics head.

 

I would greatly appreciate any further advice.

wow....go to the dealer and tell them i want to spend X amount of dollars and thats it, and they should workd with you

I like his preconceived idea that all dealerships are going to expensive, yet he also knows it will apparently require an advanced knowledge to fix. Sounds like he wants the average mechanic price, but the advanced mechanic skill.

 

I also noted there was no compression test done. Any reason for that? It is best to start with the basics.

I dont think its a pre-concieved notion......... It is common knowledge that a dealership is going to charge more.

 

 

And at least where I live the dealerships are not the most knowledgeable. Hell, I wouldnt trust my dealership to service my lawnmower. I have to "interview" the techs before I let them touch my truck for any warranty work.

 

The dealership has only fixed one issue on my vehicle that didnt require multiple trips to diagnose or require follow up repair.

you have to interview techs lol, man the dealer isen't going to take you in the back and beat your knuckles with a hammer..they aren't that expensive and atleast you would know the truck got fixed correctly...only experience i had with non GM techs, i ended up with duct tape and a screw plugging a leak...so i said see ya and started snooping out dealers, and i found one that is very nice and not driven by greed

Isn't that what the hell the rest of us come here for? If you can't offer him any advice then why post at all? A lot of these guys are young and don't have the cash flow to just pull up to a dealership w/ a problem. Maybe this place has turned into a discussion on fluff.

Why not copy and paste the info you posted on FC. here? Might help the next guy that ask this question for the umpteenth time. :sigh:

Because I don't want to LOL....to tell you the truth that forum seems to be more about helping folks w/ problems than this one is now. If I needed some new rims or shocks i'd definitely come here though :sigh: . The only problem is that it seems to be more about classic trucks than anything else.

its quite hard to diagnose a problem via the internet...hes covered anything i could think of, i've gave him my advice and the only real way to get a solid answer is to take it to an expert in person...i told you like 2 times to go to the dealer and set a price upfront in writing, then you know you won't be in over your head with a bill

I have a 1999 Chevy Tahoe Lt that I have owned for a yr now: I currently am getting a p0300 mutliple random misfire code only, before that I got a cylinder 4 misfire code(I believe cured with the plugs I changed): The truck has 137,000 miles on it. The issue is the truck runs fine normally at speeds up to 75mph if you keep the rpms low, however, when you throw a load on it, on a mild to hot day and try to drive up a steep grade or medium extended hill say an "on ramp" and the rpms climb above say 2500 rpm, it throws the code usually over 60 miles per hr and you can actually feel the misfire and notice a power loss. So far my interventions have been to replace cap/rotor, spark plugs from champion to ac delco platinum, wires are new, clean and re-oil K&N filter(it has the large k&N tube and box with the maf sensor inline),change both upstream o2 sensors, and also note that the fuel filter and pump have been replaced. Again, the truck idles very smoothly, I also have a dual exhaust system with duel cats and a Flowmaster muffler. I have read various other post that suggest anything from checking/resetting crank position sensor, to checking fuel pressure, to replacing the spider system of injectors, and last to replace the heads entirely or have them worked on due to the original heads are prone to having some of these problems. I don't want to keep throwing parts and money at the truck for no reason, just guessing in other words. I ran by a place I sometimes use for routine stuff and asked about diagnostics and they said if you get p0300 then that is all we would be able to tell you too without tearing the motor apart. I have also ran some injector cleaner through and used a can of seafoam with no apparent change. To me after o2 sensors and plugs,etc the truck idles really well and I thought that I had fixed the problem, but going home from work it showed up again.. Please help... Also this is my first post to this forum and I appreaciate your assistance... :thumbs:
