Tire Wear Post Rc 2" Level Kit?

I did a lot of reading just now on a thread about 4 link and suspension angles and what not, trying to figure this one out on my own, I didn't see anything in my search results for this so..

SORRY! if it's already here.

I was just in the garage a minute ago ( I was on the phone and I tend to wander around the house when I'm on the phone.. wound up in there..)

and I noticed that my tires, after only having the leveling kit on the truck for about 900 miles, have noticable wear on the front tires on the outer most lip. The rears are still square but the fronts are starting to round off.

Do I have a problem? Is this common and can it be fixed? If no.. perhaps I should take this back off.. I just looked at a skyjacker 3" lift kit but you have to grind something off the diff to install it AND it's like $1900 so.. I don't know that I'll be doing that.

Get an alignment... Anytime you mess with your suspension you should immediately get an alignment afterward.

I have no issue with mine. And I had mine on for about 3 years.

Sounds like the alignment is off. Or if they did an alignment, rotate the tires and watch the wear and go from there.

... Needs an alignment.

If you had an alignment done, did they print out the spec sheet for you? Always ask for a copy of the spec sheet!

Yes, I had an alignment immediatley after I had this done.

I took it to kauffman tire to have it done. The toe was way out of whack. They gave me the sheet, there were a few items they said they "couldn't correct" because it was "not adjustable." they told me that the a-arms could not be adjusted and that that was what it needed, but that I shouldn't see any unusual wear from this.

did you save the sheet? everything is adjustable.... i think they meant that they maxed out the adjustments to get it as close to spec as possible.... but if they only set your toe, you got ripped off.

and the other guy brought up a good point.... how long has it been since you rotated the tires?

even with a slightly out of spec alignment, only 900 miles shouldnt cause much tire wear.... your camber or toe would need to be way off to accelerate wear like that.

Is this the case? You can't get the alignment back into spec after a level lift? I've been planning on doing one soon, but I don't want to deal with compromising on out of spec alignment. Hopefully one of you guys will chime in! I'm planning on going with Toyo MTs and at $280 a tire I would prefer they don't get trashed any faster than they have to.

Did the shop install the "knockouts" so that the a arms can be adjusted? I would bet not hence the reason the shop told you they were not adjusted. Go by any dealer and pick up a set then go back to the alignment shop.

Aaron,

ive never had an issue getting a truck with 2" or less within spec (sometimes caster would be a bit off but that wont wear tires). Over 2" its hit or miss.

i dont think we have enough info from the OP yet to determine whats actually going on.... just speculation right now.

All I have is a 2" RC level kit on the truck.

The post-alignment specs are listed as this:

FL: Camber -.5 deg, caster 2.4 deg, toe .01 in.

FR: Camber -.3 deg, caster 2.5 deg, toe .02 in.

The wear I'm seeing is minimal but noticeable. i've only been about 400 miles on the tires since this kit was installed.

The stock bridgestone duelers that come on the All terrain trucks has a pretty square edge where the tread meets the sidewall, on both front tires this edge is subtly rounded. the casting nubs that were left are still very present on the rear tires, but completely gone on both front tires.

the truck has close to 1700 miles on it at this point. The tires have never been rotated.

What is the part number for these "knock outs" and how can they be installed?

I installed the level kit and I took the truck to kauffman because I didn't want to go to a dealer and say HAY I MODIFIED MY SUSPENSION VOID MY WARRANTY K?

Kauffman, if you do have adjustable A-arms.. wants $90 extra plus the $80 for the alignment.. to actually do the alignment.

I did not read anything prior to buying this or installing it that I needed some special part from the dealer installed on my a-arms to make this work.

you shouldnt need any extra parts.

take a look at your upper control arm mounts. are there platic pieces in the slots? if so... they didnt adjust them.

if you're not sure, post a pic of your front uca mount from the front side and the back uca mounts from the back side.

did the printout they gave you give the target values?

i cant remember off the top of my head so i tried looking it up and it looks like +.25 is nominal for camber with a tolerance of +/- .5.... so being -.3 and -.5 is just out of the tolerance limits (and way off of nominal).

id look to see if it was even adjusted at all (i bet the plastic fillers are still in the control arm mount slots)

    • Hello hello looking forward to expanding my knowledge of the 2026 2500 HD that I just bought.   Truck has 3500 miles on it four-wheel-drive crew cab and I’m about to put a 6 1/2 inch BDS lift on it 18 x 10 -25 offset with 37’s   Already have the wheels and tires just waiting on the lift install in about three weeks   Question what surprises am I not gonna be happy with?  I’m not new to lifted trucks so I know that acceleration towing gas mileage all that is affected..   Question is those of you that have this truck this powertrain with a 10 speed Allison and have done the mods that I’m doing,,, how bad is it? Is that Allison constantly gonna be hunting for the right gear to go into? And what about towing, acceleration, fuel consumption as mentioned?    Lastly how come I can’t find any ring pinion gear set up for these axles and when could I expect to see them?   I apologize if there’s any typos I’m doing speech to text on my iPhone.
    • I've got a 2013 2500 6.0L Flexfuel. Drove the truck earlier today with no issues. Went to run an errand tonight and noticed key fob wouldn't work. Figured battery was dead, so replaced fob batter. Still wasn't working. Grabbed my other set of keys with the other fob and that one wasn't working either. So I manually unlock truck and insert key. Interior lights come on, dashboard lights up, turn key and truck starts. Turn truck off, like a moron, and try starting again. This time no crank, no click, no nothing. Lights still come on and dash lights up, but now I'm getting a service 4wheel drive, service tire monitor, etc. Check voltage on battery and Im showing 12.2v. Throw my battery charger on it and give it 15 mins and try starting again. But still no crank no start. Decide maybe its a bad battery, run to autozone grab a new one and put it in. Same issue. Disconnect battery and let it sit for 15 mins. Try again and still nothing. I had managed to roll the windows down earlier as its a humid night, but now I can't get them to roll up. Power locks are also not working now. Then randomly I try the key again, and it fires right up. Immediately I roll up the windows as we have nothing but rain forecast this week. I shut it back off wait 30 seconds and start up again. Worked a 2nd time. So turn it off, start putting things back together. Try one more time, and back to no crank no start. And now the car alarm starts going off. Had to disconnect battery and leave it that way for the night as I don't think my neighbors would appreciate my alarm going off again tonight. Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.
    • No one will care for you like you care for you. Do what you can for as long as you can. IMHO of course.
    • How about them NICKS!!!
    • Hi there.  Long time lurker, first post.    i have read the previous posts regarding the water ingress problem with this emblem.  I bought my 1500 SLT the  summer of 2025 new and after reading the MANY problems with these emblems failing I decided to install one anyways.  As per a YouTube video, I sealed ( or tried to) this sign with silicone sealant around the outer perimeter joint and the holes that were already somewhat sealed on the rear plate of the emblem.  And installed the connector assembly using dielectric grease on the connectors. The installation looked great and worked well for about 4 months……then FAILURE.  Grrrrrr…… I live in the great white north and wash my truck weekly in an automatic car wash  to keep the salt off.  Let me tell you that removing the old, failed emblem is a whole different animal than removing the OEM individual letters without removing the grill assembly. Mainly because the illuminated logo is built differently than the original letters which  you can remove the red surface lettering with a knife or some kind of blade which gives access to the tabs which hold the logo onto the grill. So I had to essentially destroyed the old emblem to remove it. Doing so killed my chance of doing somekind of autopsy on the failed , old logo.  But there was plenty of water inside when I ripped it apart.  Prior to installing the new assembly I tried it with the old harness and it works fine.   Does anyone have any insight as to where the water is getting into this emblem? I intend to seal the new logo with slow curing epoxy this time around using a syringe.  I think this newer emblem may be an updated unit which I hope GM got the vendor to fix. It has an October 2025 date on it.    If this one  fails,  I am just going to revert back to the non-illuminated letters….AFTER PULLING THE GRILL.    Any thoughts on sealing with epoxy would be appreciated. Thx!   Doug
