How To Find Out What Gear Ratio Is On An Older Truck?

I was told it is not part of the VIN. So how does a guy figure out which ratio a 1500 or 2500 have? I am looking for a used truck, so trying to figure out a way to ID the differential in a truck.

Code should be listed on a sticker in the glove box.

OK. So what are the code #s for the various ratios then? Anyone have link perhaps?

Check the rpo codes on the RPO sticker on the glovebox

 

GU2 = 2.73 Ratio

GU4 = 3.08 Ratio

GU5 = 3.23 Ratio

GU6 = 3.42 Ratio

GT4 = 3.73 Ratio

GT5 = 4.10 Ratio

Actually you can run the VIN decoder above (Sticky) and it will tell you gear ratio, I just did it on a 95.
