Oil Life Indicator

I've come to that favorite time again every 3000 miles for my oil change. Every time that reset the oil life indicator, it's only around 60-70 percent. Should I still change the oil every 3000 miles or go by the oil life indicator? Thanks for all the help!

If you feel better changing it at 3k, then by all means, do it. I run mine between 4k-6k, that puts the OLM down around 30-40 percent.

If you want to know for sure, send a oil sample and have it analyzed. You'll have your answer as to how long you should run your oil between changes. I do about the same as ^^^ Mitch. I run right at 5.5k. I sleep very well knowing that all my wear levels are at average or below.

It's all about your own comfort level.

Unless you drive very little annually, then just go by your OLM. I run synthetic oil and go about 7,500 miles before my OLM gets to 10% at which point I change it.

ditto.... let the computer decide when it needs changing.

Same here. sometimes I go 7500 to 10,000 miles before a change. I use Mobil 1 5W-30, Amsoil 5W-30, or German Castrol 0W-30. All three are 100% Synthetic and yield same arguable performance of longevity and lubrication of the engine. Amsoil is my favorite but it is hard to get where I live so I more often use Mobil 1, especially cause I can get the 5-quart jugs at Wal-Mart on sale for $22 sometimes!. I used German Castrol 0W-30 before in my truck and corvette and it is pretty good too, but also very rare to find it here. Only one store in town sells it. I buy it when it is on sale also.

I have used German Castrol for the last 4 years. It is a great oil and a PAO synthetic. I caught it on sale a while back for 4.75 a quart and now have a three year supply.

My OLM goes off around 6500 to 7000 miles...but since I retired I only drive around 5 to 6 thousand miles a year, so I change it once a year which is coming up next week...

Have a good one...

Oil has come along way over the years. It's so loaded with various things now a days that you are safe driving the sucker 5000+ miles on regular dyno. (under normal driving conditions) I have no issue going off the OLM on my Diesel as well.

your opening a can of worms....i myself do not follow OLM i just do 3k oil changes, but do whatever makes you happy it really dosen't matter OLM,3k changes, 5k changes whatever as long as it your not going like 15k changes....p.s use good oil and a good filter and you will be fine
