P0449 Question

My check engine light came on and I had the code read and it was p0449. Siometimes it goes off but it always comes back on. The weather is really hot and humid here in Louisiana and its been around 110 with the heat index. Im not sure if the heat has anything to do with it. Anyhow I did plenty research on this issue and figured out that my truck has a vent solenoid and a purge solenoid. Anyway I bought the purge solenoid for 23 bucs (Ac delco 214-2149) and Im ready to install it. My question is when I put this new one on should I reset the code or should I leave it alone and see if the engine light goes off on its own that way Ill know if I reallyfixed it. And if the engine light comes on after this I will be upset and was wondering what else it could be.Thanks

The SEL light may go off, but the code is still stored. You will need to clear the codes. They don't clear by themselves.

So when I remove the cable off the battery and it clears the codes is it truly clearing the code?? Or will it come back?

you want to do it with a good code reader. mine kept coming back even after disconnecting the battery...

the DTC will be stored in history but i thought after 100 consective ignition cycles w/o setting the code it will be perminantly erased from the memory. Well ,thats how it works for chassis modules but maybe engine modules are different?

Either way you should not be setting the code & lighting the dash if the problem is truely fixed.
