2010 Sierra Indash Install

So I bit the bullet and decided to swap out my stock radio for my JVC KW-AVX810. I wasnt originally going to do it because I thought the cost of the harnesses was going to be too much.

 

Parts to Install:

 

JVC KW-AVX810 (7" touchscreen with IPOD usb capability and detachable screen(the reason I bought it))

PAC OS-4 (retains stock onstar, bluetooth, chimes, and xm capabilities)

PAC SWI-JACK (Steering Wheel Control Adapter for JVC Radio)

Metra 95-3305 (Dash Install Kit)\

Audiovox Backup Camera

 

Total (excluding JVC and camera which I already had) $140 shipped to my house

 

The install with the harnesses can be a little intimidating just because of the sheer amount of wires but everything is plug and play. The only wire connections are made from the new radio harness to the radio harness of the PAC unit. Everything else plugs into the interface box and the stock wiring harnesses.

 

I like the PAC unit but it does lack the ipod capability. My truck has the ipod jack up front so that function was lost but my JVC has the ipod cable which I ran into the glovebox so everything stays hidden. Also the XM is used through the Aux input on the new radio, so there is no picture but there is sound. The display is moved to your DIC window which shows station title as well as song title. I may get some sort of video souce to make a background for when I'm listening to XM. Also the interface has a hookup for the reverse output for the camera. So when I shift into reverse the camera comes on. No searching for which wire in the BCM controls reverse.

 

I also hate the chime box that comes with the PAC unit. The door chimes are bearable but the turn signal sound is quite annoying. I think I'll be removing that this evening.

 

I was not impressed with the fit of the Metra kit but from what I hear, none of the aftermarket dash kits fit very well. One side wasn't flush with the dash so i added a 1/8" washer behind it which helped. The top still has about a 3/32" gap across it. I'll have to come up with a solution for that.

 

Anyway if you're looking for wiring solutions for an aftermarket radio, I recommend the PAC products.
