Hey guys I have a question. I just bought a 2010 silverado, it came with the basic basic factory radio no cd player. I had the dearlship switch it out for a better one yesterday Plays Mp3, cd's aux-port. When I was leaving the lot I pulled over becuase I turn the volume up and i could bearly hear the rear speakers :fume: . switch the fade to rear and you can barely hear it(remember volume full blast). took it back to dealer and he told me that it might have a security feature for you not to hurt your ear drum."NERVER HEARD OF THAT" I'm thinking that they did not install it right! Can someone please help????

I think most factory radios have a maximum sound for safety of the speakers most likely. An after market radio you can keep on turning it up until the amp or speaker blows.

Sounds like someone screwed up though because you should be able to hear them both pretty loud.

The stock front speakers are 4ohms, the rears are 8ohms (why they did this, i'm not sure). This makes the rear speaker outputs of any head unit used, produce half the power of what the fronts are getting. Replacing the speakers is the only option (i would replace all 4).

Thank you, I really appreciated. If I switch the factory radio with and aftermarket will that work? or just replace the speakers them?

Sounds like they set the radio to low wattage out for bose systems. If you don't have the bose system in the doors, the radio will be very quiet when turned all the way up. They can hook their computer up to it and change it to high wattage output for regular speakers,if your truck doesn't have the bose system in the door.

elportis, if you change the headunit and leave your factory speakers, the rears will still be 1/2 as loud as the fronts. I would change the headunit and all 4 speakers if its in your budget. I installed a Kenwood head (the 20 watts per channel kenwood offers is noticable over the 10-12 offered by many after market units) and the polk DB series 6.5's in each door. It sounds great with good volume and better then stock midbass. After i get my subs installed, the head unit has a built-in cross-over for the internal amp which will take the bass out of the 6.5's which is anougher good thing the Kenwood offers.

Hope this helps.

Yep, Alpine does it, too. The Alpine that I have has 2 subwoofer system settings. One setting keeps the base out of the speakers and the other setting puts it back in. Very nice feature. It keeps the doors from vibrating and keeps the base tight.
