have a set of new 285,75,16 nitto terra grappler,s they are load e..good for 80psi, if i only run 40-45 psi unloaded...would that be considered under inflated? and/or wear funny

Call the tire company. I did that with a set of BFG's when I was towing. I was concerned while towing with 35" tires, what pressure would be appropriate. BFG's was able to answer the question for me.

40-45 psi would be fine for normal driving. Just because they're rated to 80 doesn't mean they HAVE to be that high. If you're towing something heavy, then bump them up, but there's no need to drive around at max psi when you're not anywhere near the max weight capacity.

for an unloaded 2500 yukon you should be around 45-50. (id err towards 50, thats a heavy truck)

40 may be a bit low.

thanks guys, becuause of the 8.1 up front.. and empty in the rear i was thinking to be 2-4psi more up front..does that make sense?

for a pickup truck it makes a noticeable difference.... that yukon has a lot of weight over the back too though. id personally run them all at the same pressure for your truck. but 50 front and 45 rear would work fine too. splitting hairs now....

I run my E rated 285/70/17 BFG AT's at 35 psi. That's just normal driving on a 1/2 ton truck though. If it was a 3/4 ton or I was towing something really heavy I would bump them up some. You will be fine at 40-45 psi.

 

80 psi is just the maximum inflation pressure.
