Blower Control Module 06 Sierra Denali

I have an '06 GMC Sierra Denali crew cab (auto climate control, digital)that started having a/c blower issues then finally stopped blowing all together last week. First an auto parts store tested with their handheld computer and it showed cooling fan #1 so we replaced the underhood fuse at the box and still did not fix. Left the new fuse in and later that night took off the blower control module (part is a carter group 1P 52413530)so could get exact part # from. Figured could live without A/C till replaced module. Next morning went out to start the truck and the battery was dead (has good battery). Have tried replacing that same module back into the truck and same result, drains the battery. Question is: 1)why is battery draining, especially after removing this module completely? and 2)If it is indeed the module that needs replaced will GM part #89018778 be the correct repl. part? I have seen on this forum that GM redone the parts on this and now the one that shows as repl. has 6 or 7 pins on the module requiring a wiring harness change...my module only has 3 pins and I only want to replace the module if possible. Thank you for any help/advice on this matter.

Update: Apparently one problem indeed was the battery but had no prior issues with battery whatsoever...but after replacing at least now the truck stays charged. Have resistor ordered and will be replacing myself when receive. Hopefully upon replacing this part my old truck will be back to "normal" again. I will update when I figure this one out.
