Took Out Nav And New Problem

My 09 Siverado LTZ was purchased used. The PO had a dealer install a Nav from a Tahoe hybrid. Never worked properly. Sent it away for programming and although the Bluetooth now worked there was still no door chimes. After months of frustration I had the dealer install what is supposed to be the factory radio. Sounded kind of tinny even though I have the Bose system. I checked this morning and cannot hear anything coming from the 2 Bose windshield speakers. Could this be in the programming? The nav sure had great sound!

My understanding of GMT900 radios is that they need to be programmed or set up to learn the truck's VIN. There are no harness changes required. Did you put in a 1 disk, a 6 disk or a new nav radio? Everything should plug right in. The nav radio you removed probably had 4 plugs on the rear, plus antenna, and if it was a 2010 radio, a mini usb plug too. The dealer that installed the Tahoe hybrid radio for the PO may not have known about the VSS (vehicle speed sensor) harness or the voice harness that plugs into the Onstar VCIM module. Also would need the GPS antenna that goes in the dash under the defroster vent.

I just went through this this past weekend. I added factory nav replacing my 6 disk changer on my Avalanche LTZ. All the parts are required for the nav to work, so that could have been your problem on the dealer installed nav.

Royal Vader: The issue of installing an oem aftermarket NAV is complicated. Some units (especially those from a Hybrid) will never work properly in a non Hybrid truck. My Nav was programmed 4 different times. Still no chimes. The cables and modules were all there. Sound did increase with speed. I just gave up on all the hassle. Besides the NAV does not compare to a cheap Garmin!! My NEW problem may be that the 6 disch unit has not been programmed properly. Other than the small BOSE windshield speakers everything works. It must be a Bose unit as the EQ only shows TALK and MANUAL. Thanks

It is all in the programming. I recently put a 6 disc with usb out of a 2010 Silverado into my 09 Silverado. When the dealer initially programmed and removed the theftlock, the chimes did not work and the volume was not right. A second trip to the dealer and it is setup right now. The radio has to be programmed correctly for the other sound system options by the dealer. Different speaker options have different RPO and there is a code or part number that corresponds to each RPO. The radio has to know what speaker package it is feeding to supply the correct wattage. The radio I installed came out of a truck with BOSE but my truck is not equiped with BOSE.
