454-duramax Swap

I hav a '97 Gmc 3500 Crew cab long box 4x4 with a 454. I am wondering if it possible to swap it out for a duramax and allison and if anyone else has done this.

Anything is possible. You will need the complete harness for the drive train as well as PCM and TCM. If you do this post up some stuff about it (write ups and/or photos)....

you may also need a body lift to clear the transmission. The Allison 1000 is made for medium duty trucks.

The best way to go about this swap is put your truck for sale on craigslist or some other buy and sell type site, and at the same time look for another GMC to buy with a duramax-allison in it, and you should be good to go

If it were me i would put in a 12 Valve cummins in it, lots easier to install and don't need to worry about all the electronics. Stock for stock the D-max is going to have more power but the cummins can crank out a lot of power.
