Brake Lights On All The Time

I have a 2008 Silverado 1500 Extended Cab. Recent I noticed my brake lights stay on indefinitely. At first I thought is was something around the remote start with the aftermarket alarm I had installed so I took it back to the place that did the install. They have completely removed the alarm and the lights are still on. After further testing (by them) they said it looks like a faulty BCM. Does anybody have any other suggestions/recommendations I can check before I take it to the dealer? The truck is not under warranty any more so I don't want to run up a huge bill trying to determine if it is the BCM or something else and then spend several hundred $$$ to replace the BCM and reprogram it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This would be the first place I would be looking. Should be on the pedal itself. I have not looked at this truck but I have replaced that switch on older one at some point.

Yes The lights stay on even when the switch is unplugged.

Well if this occurred after that aftermarket alarm/remote start was installed I would suspect they some how damage something in the process.

 

A local after market accessory install shop advertises their installs will not cause an electrical problems like some others do, so that is a concern. Gone are the days when you can just tap into any wire or circuit and not have any problems.

If you unplugged the switch sounds like it must be the BCM provided the lamps stayed on during the un-plug.

Normally I would agree but the alarm was install back in December and the issue with the lights just started about a week ago.

That is the case. Last night I pulled the fuse for the brake lights and they stayed on. Removed the fuse for the RT Turn/brake Light and the brake light on that side now turns off but still does not work nor does the turn signal. (as expected) How much trouble is it to replace a BCM?
