Spark Plug Gapping

Recommended Posts

I just put a set of AC Delco Iridium plugs in with bosch wires and it misfires every so often, is this because i left the gapping at .04 instead of changing it to .06 as it says for my truck. i thought the new ones were supposed to be left at .04

ac delco's are gapped for you already i thought. dont touch them

if the plug was dropped or banged its not at the proper gap so you should check the gap right before you install them

.040 is the new suggested gap for these trucks. Are you getting codes? If so, is it the same cylinder(s)?

yeah but its only when the key is on, it goes away with the truck started, you can feel it shake when it misfires tho it doesnt do it enough to flash, i did the wires plugs and pcv valve, cleaned the tbi and maf and seafoamed it so i dunno what to do next, maybe the egr valve, the code says n/a on my reader

would that cause a misfire prob at idle only?

i remember years ago i had a 283 with a broken valve spring at idle it had a dead cylinder due to one of the valves not opening not saying thats your problem just one of many couln't say for sure unless i could hear it up close

yeah the problem is that it's not constant it's every so often, im gonna try to clean the egr i think, if that doesnt work then i dunno

check the spark wires for connection at both ends also pull all the plugs and recheck the gap 40 thou

i think it could be those wires, put your old ones back on and see how it runs. have seen new plugs be bad... it obviously one or the other. thats all you changed...
