4wd Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 Is 11.8 MPG normal/ acceptable? for my 08 truck 5.3 L (LC9), 4 speed, 4.1 & 4x4. Mileage 30K.
Stevens03 Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 Hell no... unless you always got the pedal to the floor Even my 6.0 with 4.10 gears doesn't do that bad. Have you hand calc'd it or are you going off the DIC? When was the last time you reset it?
Nick The Great Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 Seems a little low to me. Even if I'm assuming you're driving in town and driving moderately aggressive. Now if you are talking E85, that's about what my truck will do in town, with the E85 and driving moderately aggressive. I have a GMT900 1500 Silverado Crew Cab 4WD with 3.73 rear. But with 'normal gas' I get better, 14 if I'm only driving in town. Maybe someone with 4.10's will chime in here.
4wd Posted September 24, 2010 Author Posted September 24, 2010 MPG off the DIC!, don't know if I can reset it.. 20" tire is stock, 95% city normal driving, NO E85, this what I have always read through the DIC since zero. Catback & the MIT tube are the only MODs so far and have not affected MPG.. The DIC reading is accurate because i did a manual calculation to check.. Thanks!
RyanbabZ71 Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 I am getting 12.2 with E85 and the 6.2
afflicted4 Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 I have a new 2010 not yet broken in 2500hd 6.0 lt 4.1 gears city driving lately a lot and am getting 14mpg
hodo78 Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 I'm with the others there, your MPG seems pretty low unless you got your foot in the floor. I have a 2010 CC 4x4 with the 6.2 liter and 3.73 gearing. 600 mile trip, average 78 mph, 16.9 MPG 110 mile trip, cruise set on 70mph, 17.9 MPG And I average 14.5 MPG in town driving. I dont keep my foot in the floor, but I dont baby it either!
StinkyCheese Posted September 25, 2010 Posted September 25, 2010 That's pretty bad in my opinion. I get 11-12.5 out my '06 CC 2500. If you're not figuring out your mileage by hand then your actual mileage is lower than what the DIC says it is. MY DIC is always .5-1.5 higher than what I am actually getting it when I hand calculate.
4wd Posted September 25, 2010 Author Posted September 25, 2010 Thanks for the info! I will inform the service manager next time I take it for maintenance. Any clue what's causing this low Mpg? other than driving factor.
jrod332 Posted September 25, 2010 Posted September 25, 2010 maybe check your plugs. run some techron through it. you have gotten some bad gas a few times.
kawtoy_77 Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 I get around 11-13 on my 5.3l only when running E85, otherwise I get around 16-17.
blackout07 Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 My wifes 07 Tahoe is the same way. 11.5 mpg! What gives?
ryan_hermanutz Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 With more city than highway I'm at about 13.5 mpg and a even mix I get about 15 mpg and mainly highway I'm at 17 mpg. I just moved and now it's all pretty much strictly city so I'm down to 12 mpg, but it's only been 2 tanks so I'm not sure. I've got a 4.8 with 4 speed and 3:42, so I might start considering gears now.
gnet158 Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 I'm running the stock 20's and I got 15.7 mpg driving 80-90 MPH on a recent trip up North which included driving thru the "Grape Vine". You sure you reset your DIC? Just press and hold the second button from the top.
