Dirt And Sand Collecting In Gas Cap Area

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem. I have a 2009 Suburban, and after driving on sandy roads, all kinds of sand and grit collect inside the door to the gas cap. I need to be real carful when removing the cap or I would knock sand off the cap tether and into the tank. I don't recall having this problem on other trucks I have had. Is this an oversight, or did someone forget a seal on mine. Thanks, Mike

I don't think they were designed with sea, just seems like a bad design that allows contaminants into that area. I'll mention it to the dealer to see if they have had any problems associated with it.

im sure you could get a strip of rubber or something to put around your gas door...

Doubt it is coming in from around the door. More likely to be coming in from the holes in the little "well".

ohhh i havent seen inside a GMT900 gas door. maybe fill those holes? or i take it they are there for a reason

It just is not a tight fit. They have a space for the door hinge to go into. You can see the ground through that area. I would imagine the filler panel in there is only to keep the crap from coming out the filler door. Can't think of any other reason for it being there.
