First Service Appt. Question

I took my new Silverado in for its first service appointment last week. Got the standard first appointment check done on it and an oil change. Also had a few warranty things to have the guys check out.

My passenger side heated mirror was not heating up and they found that the connections had come apart inside. My guess is that they were probably never connected b/c the mirror never worked from the first time I tried it.

The other warranty issue I asked them to check was my window lockout button. I would bet money that my button locked out all window switches except of course for the drivers door buttons. I would have sworn that. Now just before my appointment I noticed I had engaged my lockout button to control my little boy's window in the back and my wife was still able to use her window switch up front on the passenger side. I noticed it immediately b/c I was sure none of the switches were supposed to work once the driver lockout switch was engaged.

I even looked it up in my manual before saying anything to the dealer. The book says, none of the windows will work except with the drivers window buttons. So when I took the truck in for service I told the guys this. They checked it out and said there was nothing wrong with it and the GM tech they contacted stated that the passenger can still operate their window switch with the lockout button engaged and it is only supposed to keep the back windows from being locked out.

I was surprised by this and figured someone here could give me a confirmation either way.

One other things fellas.........I am getting ready to put a cap on the back and was wondering which ones are good and which ones to stay away from. Right now I'm liking a few of the Leer models with the sportsman or hunter packages.

Any suggestions?

THANKS!!

Dunno if it's normal or not, but my 2010 ext cab lock out button does NOT lock out the passenger front switch. Only the back windows. Actually, on the ride home from the dealer (~15-20 miles on truck) I did the lock out button to mess with my wife. She put the window back down and gave me a look like I was stupid. I felt like an arse. lol. Anyway, my truck has always done that. Don't really like it, if I want to lock out all the window switches there is a reason, but it is what it is.

From your 2010 manual:

Window Lockout

(Window Lockout) : If your crew cab or extended

cab vehicle has power windows, the driver's door power

window switch has a lockout feature. The lockout switch

is located in front of the window switches. This feature

prevents the rear windows from operating, except from

the driver's position. Press the switch to engage or

disengage the lockout feature. An indicator light on the

switch will come on when the lockout feature is

engaged, and will go off when disengaged

I guess I just didn't pay as close attention as I thought when I read through the manual. I would have bet money that the passenger window was included in the lockout.

What about cap suggestions fellas? Is Leer a good quality truck cap manufacturer? The other brand I got some info. on was Jerico.

One of the few truck cap places around me carries Leer and they seem to be pretty good from what I could tell.

Can't really help you with the cap info, but I am curious myself. I've been trying to decide between a soft tonneau cover and a truck tent, or a cap. We have property out in the mountains, but the houses aren't really safe to stay in. After a leaking tent and collapsed air mattress through 4 days of rain, a cap is looking like a good option. Plus we go shooting a lot, cap seems more secure. Most caps are pretty ugly though.

I saw a leer for about 10 seconds on a gmt900 sierra this morning. Didn't see a model number, but it looked pretty nice from 1 car back. Guy at work has a leer 700 tonneau and likes it a lot. That's about all I can tell you :)
