Any One Else Ever Hit A Deer?

I just hit my first deer on the highway going approx. 35-40 at time of impact in my 2010 Sierra 1500 . The bumper, bumper cap, and grille are all completely screwed as well as the pieces behind the grille that mount it. Has anyone else had any experience with hitting a deer? How much approximate cost am i looking at? It hit square in the middle and no glass was broken and even the bottom plastic piece under the chrome bumper is still in perfect shape. Did not reach the radiator either. It was not the stock grille so i have the original to replace it with, but how much is a bumper and bumper cap?

Correct, as previously stated. File the insurance under comprehensive (unless you have a high deductible). It is covered and considered Not your fault.

That sucks, and I know how you feel right now.

Last year, I killed 2 deer with my Mach 1. The first squirted over the hood and face planted into the windshield, breaking its neck. The only damage to the car was a bent antenna. I told my wife that is why I wax it so much - the deer just slid right off.

The second was a more direct strike at about 45 mph. There was over $1600 in damage, but like was said above, covered under comprehensive coverage, less my deductible.

I hit one 2 years ago when I had my Blazer ZR2, glad I had a baja light bar on the front, it shot the deer right under the truck and minimized damage. The body shop still milked 2300$ out of my insurance co. and that was just for a lower valence, refinishing the bumper, replacing a fender flare, grille and signal light.

But yeah, as long as you don't have a high deductible, run it through insurance, its not an at fault deal.

I don't have the pictures but I hit a deer on a 4 lane going 60mph in my 1993 GMC Sonoma 4x4 RCSB. It took out my front end, hood, left front fender, AC condensor. Total back then in 1998 was $2,900 GM parts or $1,900 generic, which is what the insurance paid for. I kind of lucked out because the body shop that did the work I go to know over the years with them working on my 65 Impala. I had him repaint the entire truck as well which added $500 to the cost. It looked great after that. Reason for the entire paint job is because it was a black truck and I took it off road a few times and had some serious scratches down the sides from trying to go down 4 wheeler paths.

Just make an issurance claim. Wildlife is a no fault claim. You'll be surprised how expensive that front plastic is (grill, etc). (And there is typically bits you cannot see that get damaged as well) I bet you're in the $3-4k range once the dust settles.

Well, Comprehensive coverage with State Farm was a $0 deductible and the estimate totaled $3,010 with parts and labor. Left it there and said see you in a week. The transmission cooler and condensor need to be replaced as well as all the bracket stuff in there.

Good luck...I've never had any luck dealing with that company, seems they try their damndest to weasel out of paying. Hopefully you have better luck than most others I've heard of.

Didn't have a problem. Hit a deer @ 15 yrs ago in a Dodge Daytona. The car was a total loss. Settled in a comprehensive claim, no deductible, 100% replacement cost + @ 7% to cover sales tax.

I hit one in my S10 Blazer going about 50. It was really foggy and the deer was walking out of the ditch with it's head down. Before I could even try and brake the I had hit it's head directly on the passenger side of my all-metal bumber. It killed the deer instantly and left my truck unscathed. Talk about luck!
