Transmission Gasket?

Recommended Posts

dropped my tranny pan and changed my filter and fluid. while wiggling the filter out i ripped what seems to be a gasket. not wanting it to completely come off and have it swimming in my transmission, i cut it out. can any one tell me what it is and if it a big deal that i cut it out?

That was the valve body gasket. If you would have left the valve body bolted up it would have been fine. Now that you took it apart you need a new one. Be very careful when you order a new one. Goto a very good tranny shop or GM not Autozone. There are different models/years/applications with different size orifice locations and holes. If you dont get the exact one your screwed!!! The one your looking for (2007 Truck) should have a white line on it but dont quote me, maybe purple been a few months when I had that problem with gaskets and a re build.

no. i never removed the valve body. its just a picture i found and used to better show what i was talking about. so i should be good? it wont affect anything?

This was just extra gasket hanging out between the valve body and the case correct? If so you are good to go. If you took any of the bolts loose then your not. Make sure you change out the filter gasket/metal oring that should have come with your filter also.
