Body Lift Questions

Not sure if this is the right section or not? If not, please move.

Couple quick questions. Are there any body lifts for gmt900 pick ups (10 silverado), that DON'T require cutting of the frame or anything? I guess using brackets is dead?

Do body lifts affect the cadillac-esque ride quality?

Wife wants to buy me one for christmas, not too sure. Thanks guys.

They don't require any cutting of the frame, and they have nothing to do with the suspension so the ride remains the same.

+2 A body lift is just that... spacers for the "body/bed" No cutting involved.

Really? Oh okay, thanks. I've always heard people say body lifts make the ride rough, but never had one. I always figured like you said.

The zone kit I looked at, the directions did say to cut/drill the frame. Even the 1.5in. I guess the PA kit is different? If I don't got to cut or drill maybe I will let her.

Are there any issues from installing a body lift that I should be aware about?

I used Performance accessories 2" body lift, no cutting required. PM Matt and see what he has to say. He recently did one on his denali. Also could do a search for his installation photos too for more info. :)

Awesome, thanks. I originally was planning an RC 2" level, 1.5 rear block, and 3" body lift on 33s, but the 3" body lifts are expensive! What happened to $100-$150 body lifts?! Inflation I guess. Had those POS jeeps too long I suppose. Just some darn pucks, screws, and 4 brackets! For $375, I'll leave her stock :) Can't swing that right now.

you mind me askin what sort of price range the 2" PA is? You don't have to answer if you don't wanna, I can look when the wife and I are done this movie. Shoot, I just wanted some extra clearance for snow and on the farm. If these trucks had the stock clearance of the old c/k pick ups, I'd prolly just add nice tires and be done :D course, we all know that ain't true.

This shouldn't bust the bank. I have the RC kit right now and will be doing the 1.5" body lift here in the next couple months. Like you I don't have the money for what I really want, yet.

Get the rear bumper relocate brackets too. It is worth the extra $50.

EDIT: A thread to refer to.

The only cutting is for the bumpers. Youll have to cut the factory brackets and in the front weld a gusset back on to them. In the back its just a cut and bolt on new brackets.

Well, I guess that idea is out. I called a local truck place, like Trick Trucks or truckin' america etc. to see how much they charge to install one. Don't work in a shop anymore and truck doesn't fit in my garage so I really don't have anywhere to install one. The guy said "I would CONSIDER installing one in your truck since it's new, but I would have to think about it."

........ Guess he didn't want any money lol. He said body lift is NOT the way to go. Said the $225 ReadyLift leveling kit is the best way, said there is much less problems after install (Even though my truck already sits level..). I guess body lifts cause problems? I asked him about stress on the upper ball joints and he said he never had a problem. When I asked him how many of his customers are still coming there after driving with it for 35,000 miles he hung up on me. He did say there are a lot of other spacer kits on the market, but the 2.5" ready lift put less stress on everything.

There aren't really any other truck places around here, and the dealer sure isn't going to waste time doing a body lift, so I guess I aint gettin one of those.

Thanks for all the responses guys, sorry it was for no reason.

What a clown. You don't have to be a freakin' mechanic to know that body lifts are in no way, shape, or form "bad." And I don't care who makes the leveling kit...they are all the freaking same. In fact 2.5" puts the MOST STRESS on the suspension components due to the amount of lift. Thats a plain and simple fact. 2" is generally the maximum amount of desireable leveling. I have had two body lifts on two trucks. One of which I put through hell and back and never had one issue. And I'm going on three years with this truck and no issues. Sounds like that guy is a jackass and won't stay in business giving advise like that.

Now, if you want a body lift you have nothing to worry about. They are as common as any other means of lift out there and are very safe and effective.

I appreciate that Black. Your truck is awesome! As I said, he is the only real "local" guy, and I don't have the time to take it anywhere else  I don't really "want" anything. I thought about a 2" front/ 1.5 rear spacer, and a 1.5/3" body lift just to pull the front end up to a reasonable level, but no real preference. Money is tight anyway, so I guess it's all for the best.

The instructions for all the items you mentioned are clear and well defined. You and a buddy or two could tackle them pretty easily with the right tools and patience. I vote go for it. Nothing feels better than knowing YOU did the work to your truck when it is finished. Good luck, I hope you get what you want.

I don't have anywhere I could do it really, other than maybe at the RUBB tent at work, but I couldn't leave it over night. I got a buddy or two that could prolly help, but im the only "ex mechanic" of the bunch. How long you think it would take if you took your time and only used hand tools (no air to hook up my 1/2 impact)? Are there any kits that DON'T involve cutting/drilling/welding anything? Something that has brackets for the bumpers etc that are just bolt on? Anything else I will run into other than swapping body mounts and removing bumpers? Right now I don't even have a foot and a half of clearance at the front bumper, that's the minimum imo for someone who drives in snow purposely or in areas where freak snow storms come out of no where like the mountains.

I was looking at the zone combo kit, 2" level and 1.5 body. I would just add a rear block later I guess. But, last time I looked at zone even the 1.5 needed to cut/drill the oem brackets.

You and your buds should be able to at least get the body lifted in a day. I'm thinking worst case scenario, since you can't leave it over night, drive it without the bumpers and come back the next day and button every thing up. The leveling kit shouldn't take more than a couple of hours to knock out, so you could fit that in at any time. PM Matt. He recently installed a 3" body lift on his Sierra, so he could put your mind at ease about the install. Good luck.
