6.2l Relatively Unknown

I pulled into the grocery store yesterday and parked beside another silverado, which was a 2010 CC as well. When I came out and started my truck up another gentleman was getting into his truck. 5.3L, to make the story short he was amazed at the difference in sound my truck made and had me pop the hood and looked the truck over underneath, etc.... He was pissed that he didn't realize there was a 6.2L available. And in fairness I didn't know either until I hummed and hahed over a 1500 vs. 2500 with a 6.0L.... I assume most repeat buyers or chevy/GMC guys were for the most part aware.

And to be honest in the area I live I've still yet to see another 6.2L driving around, all have the side exhaust exit with either 4.8 or 5.3.

This was the 3rd time I've been asked about this. Pretty interesting.

Anyone know what kind of % of the 1500's were built with the 6.2L?

not alot of folks know about the 6.2, hell i barely ever see the vortec max around here..4.8s and 5.3s dominate. As far as % of sales, i'm going to say pretty low, seeing at the 6.2 is a hog as far as MPG..I'd rather have an iron block but thats just me

All they have to do is look in the options list of a GM truck brochure. There's a pretty good mix of Vmax's and 6.2's in our area. Most of them though are LT or SLE's.

I think GM might be rationing the 6.2L (CAFE?). In taking to a good friend who sells GMC trucks, he was telling me he was looking all over for a 6.2L truck for a customer and he cannot find one a dealer will give up and most dealers only have one. He said GM only let them order one for stock.

Ah.. Part of that could be true, but 1 local dealer always has 1-2 in stock, and other always has 3-4 in stock. Both are within 50 miles of each other. If I do a search on cars.com 6 are found within 30 miles, 8 within 50 miles.

Maybe it's a regional thing :uhoh:

The 6.2 is the what sold me on My 09. The 6.2 wasnt really available back then. So I settled on the AWD . Would have loved to gotten real 4wd with the 6.2. At least they are offering it now. It is just what the 1500 needs IMOP.

I get about 14 or 15l/100kms with mine acording to the display , I think thats like 16mpg or so . But WTF I can pass anything on the road at will (except a gas pump). I dont care ,gas is really cheap up here in Canada only $1.12L or so for 91octane . :uhoh:

Besides a Denali are there any exterior visible markings to let anyone know you have a 6.2l under the hood?

Just the big arse tail pipe that looks like a diesel coming straight out the back. I think it's like 3 1/4 inch diameter outlet. I just love the sound when you get on it, and power, a truck this big shouldn't be able to put you back in your seat like this. O.K. yes it should and I love it. I do think they should have come out with a 6.2L in lettering right under the front part of the silverado lettering, just smaller. Would have been a nice touch.

I just got my SLT 6.2 on Wednesday and the only difference visually that I can see is that the exhaust tip come out under the rear bumper rather than to the side under the bed.

When I bought mine there was probably 2 for sale in the province at the time. Now I do regular searches and cannot even locate one. As for other people they keep thinking its a diesel when I say 6.2l. Its pretty sweet having something that's not easily available or not known about.

GM could at least install Yousimity Sam "BACK OFF" mud flaps on it :uhoh:

Good ole' Yosemite Sam. They don't show cartoons like that anymore. Kids these days don't know what they're missin.

When I purchesed my SLT 6.2L there were only 3 in the state. The GMC I bought, an overpriced lifted GMC, and a Silverado LTZ.

I had to drive 200 miles one way to get my GMC.
