All atv owners with kids

Please watch your children and do not let them ride alone without a helmet and proper attire.

My cousin is laying in cabel hunington right now with a major head blow,  road burnes, bulging disk, sprung wrist, and broke ankle.

He lost control and hit a drain pipe and the 4 wheeler and him did a 360 and head planted on the main road.

He is responsive, and loved the plane ride, but he got lucky  alot of kids do not.

The 4 wheeler is totaled but that is nothing but material

So please take care of your children, because I know it has opened my eyes.

Sorry to hear about your cousin.  He is in our prayers.  ATV's are not toys.  Parents of kids should not take them lightly.  Even though 4 wheelers are much safer than thier 3 wheeled predecessors, there still much risk in the hands of kids and the inexperienced.

Good post Larry.  I plan on making my son wear his everytime he rides it.  I did when I was little as well.  Back when I was in high school, a good friend of mine's brother almost died as a result of a w-wheeler accident.  To this day, he has no sense of smell, partial loss of vision in one eye, and some facial scars.

Hope everything goes well Larry.

Hope everything goes well Larry! Not sure if its the same in other places but the news of an ATV accident involving kids and adults is no surprise here in So. WV. To address Toms post, I feel that no matter what age, you should wear a helmet, not just when you are young!

And even when your older as well.  People may think they are older and wiser and and won't do things to hurt themselves, but accidents still happen even though you may be trying to be safe.

Again, back when I was younger and we had out ATV's me and Elwood's dad NEVER wore a helmet.  For years and years he rode with no problems, but one time after I came in the AF, he was riding with some friends of his, and while climbing a hit, he unexpectedly hit a root or rock or something.  It kicked the front tires of the ground and the momentum flipped it right over on top of him.  He said the hadle bar/headlight assembly landed right square in his chest.  He said he could hardly move and really thought he was seriously hurt.  Luckily he wasn't.  Had he been positioned a little differently, it could have been his face/head, which I'm sure would not have been good.

Safety first.  :thumb:

Sorry about your cousin. But maybe for others out there it can serve as a wakeup call.

Just remember that helmets, and saftey training should be used for a lot of sports. ATV's, Motocylces, dirtbikes, mountainbikes and snowmobiles. Play it safe, wear a helmet and learn how to operate each of these vehicles safely. You only get one life.

Out of  curiosity how old is your cousin Larry? Hope he's doing better. At least you can be sure from now on he'll ride with all the right gear. Tell him that there is people all over the country pullin' for him.

I've had some close calls and a broken helmet to prove it.

Dude, I hope he's well or getting better.

I perfected much of my stuntwork on my old Polaris Scrambler.    But yes, I wore a helmet.
