Just Bought An 07

Just bought a 5.3L 07 Silverado LTZ 4x4 with 32K miles Fully Loaded.

What concerns should I have?

I got all the service records and they checked out good very minor BS issues.

I love the truck just wondering about everything.

First concern is you should put up some pics before you get ran outta here!

second concern would be having $$ to put gas in it and tires on the wheels.

Congrats. You got questions on anything specific about it??

I'm reading Oil Usage is heavy?

When I got it from the dealer the DIC says 40% oil life left.

I'm going to switch to Fully Synthetic Mobil 1

Its really a beautiful truck and here is a side pic of it.

Any kind of maintenance I should go ahead and do on it with the miles upon receiving?

Nice looking truck. At that age, I would change the air and fuel filters, motor oil and filter (40% oil life at delivery? Damn) and check the other fluid levels.

nothing to do with the oil life monitor... but..

I would carefully observe any loss of oil from your engine (check your dipstick at every fuel fillup) and if you start to notice loss of a quart before it is time for an oil change, then take your truck to a dealer to start an oil consumption report ... these 5.3L AFM engines are developing a reputation for oil consumption (not every truck is affected, but it is becoming more evident) once they pass the 30,000 mile mark.

If your truck does develop this issue, you need to have the oil loss documented and then you can get in line for whatever fix that GM will come up.... so far GM says that something like 1 quart in 1500 miles is acceptable oil loss... but there are lots of these 5.3L AFM engines with higher oil loss than that.

OK, I will start to do that at monitor, I figure when I get back from work training, I'm going to go ahead and change the oil and put Mobil 1 5W30 Fully Synthetic in it. I will begin to watch it and go from there.

BTW, How much oil does it hold. I did not receive an owners manual so I can't look it up.

I'm assuming this is covered under powertrain warranty and will be fixed even after the truck is out of warranty or what? My concern is if this problem does develop close to out of warranty or whatever then what? Am I screwed?

.. engine holds 6 quarts, and Mobile 1 Synthetic 5W30 is a good choice

.. I don't know about out-of-warranty stuff... but if this becomes recognized by GM as a chronic issue then you would hope so... best solution is to at least let GM know if you think you have a problem and get it documented by a dealer while the engine is within your warranty..

.. and btw any aftermarket tunes = loss of powertrain warranty .. GM requires that the dealers check for non-GM calibration before performing any powertrain warranty repair work...

I will not be doing any type of aftermarket tunes. Not my cup of tea want to keep it stock.

I've used Mobil 1 in every engine I've had and not had a bit of trouble out of it so why change something that has gave me excellent results.

I will check oil on each fill up and go from there. I want this truck to last me for along time... I've worked hard to put a nice down payment on it and want it to last.

BTW, AC Delco Oil Filter part # ?

Did I get a good buy?

07 LTZ Silverado 4x4 w/ 32600 miles

Best of my knowledge it has everything but DVD Video and (XM - Which I plan on adding later )

Carfax 1 Owner - Called the owner, wife drove it to work 8-10 miles a day.

$23,995 is what I paid for it. NADA books it at 28,500 KBB has it at 27K and change.

I financed $22,300 after I traded in my Monte Carlo which I was upside down a couple thousand but it had 180,000 after buying it 5 years ago with 52,000 miles on it for a 2004.

I got Credit Union Financing for 60 months at 3.99% interest but I'm going to get it paid off a year early.
