Hid Question

I have had HID's in my truck for about 2 months now and love them. I recently purcahsed a set of Denali lights for my truck to see if the factory projector in them would make a difference. Boy was I wrong. I have about half the output with the Denali lights than I do with my regular ones. Has anyone else had similar issues, or am I doing something wrong(not sure how you just put the bulb in lol)?

Are the reflectors for halogen lights or for HID's? They have different type of projectors for each type of bulb i do belive.

As far as I know they are for Halogens, that is what the Denali lights have. What would be the difference between these two and why such a noticable difference?

hid and halogen projectors are completely different in how they capture and project light. thats why the hid bulb doesnt work with the halogen housing. you can however get some pretty good light output with thoseprojectors and some silverstar bulbs

You made me have to clean my glasses for this one lol. The halogen projector is made for a lower lumin output of light from the bulb. Also the lens itself is specifically calibrated for the predetermined position in which the halogen bulb sits within the housing creating the best spread of light that is able to be produced by that type of bulb. Therefore by taking and HID bulb and placing it in the place of a halogen bulb the light spread would be different and would not be the ideal spread because the buld sits in a different position inside the housing.

Never knew that. I guess my next question would be, is there a way to either retrofit the factory projector to make it better with the HID bulb? OR is there a projector that I can get and put in place of the factory one?

Like uchi said. You can retrofit the correct housings. And there is plenty of writeups over how to do that here

I would stay away from9006 with a retro fit. it won't be nearly add good as an hid bulb. I think mine are d2s or ds2 can't remember the order if there letters

This link takes a while to read but does a great job explaining the difference (and why it's illegal to replace halogens with HID's):
