Does anyone know where to find 12 volts that is present only when ignition switch is on. trying to wire in the fuse box to the left of steering column but all seem to have 12 volts all the time. Thanks!

I tapped in via the fuse box under the dash near the drivers feet. You'll need a test light to get the right one. It is a male output terminal from the box, I used an insulated spade connector for power and grounded to a bolt right outside the box.

Is this a good place to get power for an aftermarket seat heater kit? Have any pictures of where you tapped in? Im a little bit lost. (okay okay, a lot lost)

You never want to hardwire a radar detector. Reason being is, when you get pulled over - and you will, because people who have radar detectors put WAY too much faith into them - you need to be able to yank it out of the windshield and toss it under the seat.

If a cop pulls you over and sees a radar detector in your windshield, not only will you get a ticket for speeding, but also for anything else the cop can come up with.

Uh they are not illegal in all states btw. Pennsylvania is one of them....

I wired mine into the wiring that goes to the compass in the mirror. Hot in run only, don't have to turn radar detector on or off. Comes on with the truck. If you drop the center console in the roof down you can find the wires.

Yes legal here in Tx but the police do not like to see them. It is like ya I play the game and try and beat you, even if you use it for a reminder as you drift over limit...

I run the escort Solo 2, battery, lay it on the dash by the A pillar (anti slide stuff under it) if ever stopped I can just move it out of sight. No give away marks on the windshield and it is not out there for all the world to see. Just cause you are paranoid does not mean they are not out to get ya...:-)

In my last truck I used the power from the overhead console. I wired both lights to one switch, and used the other as the switch for the radar. Clean, and gave me the option to turn it off.

I wired mine to the fuse panel. That invisicord looks like a great option. I may get one for the wife's car. I also use a blendmount to attach my valentine one to the rearview mirror. http://www.blendmount.com/

I'd never heard of the "blendmount". It looks like a great way to mount a detector. Thanks!
