What Offset And Tire Size?

Hey guys, new to the site. Been lurking for a couple of weeks just reading and trying to soak up as much knowledge as I can. Thus far though I haven't been able to find the exact answer to my question. I just bought a 2010 Silverado Ext. cab Z-71 brand new last week from a dealer I do some work for. A friend of mine just took a Truxxx 2.5" leveling kit with the 1" lift rear blocks off of his truck. The kit was only on his truck for about 10k miles. He just upgraded to a 6" lift. I think I'm going to put his Truxxx kit on my truck as this will be my daily driver.

I've just about decided I'm going with the Ballistic Jester 20 x 9 in chrome finish. This wheel comes in 3 different offsets, +12, 0, and -12. I think I'm gonna go with the Cooper Zeon LTZ. I'm just wondering what offset wheel I can go with and what size tire would be the most I could go with without significant rubbing. I don't mind trimming a little plastic but would like to avoid cutting metal. Here are the sizes I looked at- 275-60 and 305 -50. I know the 275 is a little taller tire but I really like the width of the 305. I don't mind the wheel sticking out a hair, maybe .5". Hope this isn't a repost of someone else's dilemma but I wasn't able to find the exact answer to my question through searching the posts. Thanks for your help.

Welcome to the site. I'm running 8.5" wheel with 5.5" of backspacing as well as the cooper zeon's. Awesome tire btw.

Anyways, with a 9" wide wheel, I think it would be the perfect offset. :uhoh:

What size tire do you think? Also help me understand the principle of the offset. Doesn't a negative offset push the wheels further out while a positive offset pulls the wheels in closer to the truck?

You're probably right Blackout. I just really like the way the more negative offset looks. I'm sure that's what you're running right? Wonder if I could get away with the 0 offset. It has a 5" backspace while the -12 has 4.5".

Yes sir, my wheels have a -25 offset and are 10" wide. I was a little nervous about it when I ordered them, but I love the way they look, so I understand where you're coming from. You could definately run the 0 offset wheels but you should probably opt to run the 275/60's. :P

That's what I'm kinda thinking too. I like a little depth to the wheel. Just looks sharper IMO. So you think no rubbing issues with the 0 offset and 275/60's?

With a 2.5" leveling kit you should be ok. You may need to use a zip tie or two on the plastic liner but I doubt it.

Thanks for all your help man! And BTW, love your truck! I'll post up some pics after I get the lift installed. Maybe a few months before the new shoes.

Well, I hate to keep coming back to this but I'm just wondering what I would have to do if I wanted to run a -12 offset. I keep looking at wheels and I just like the depth of the wheel better. I know it will undoubtedly stick out more but that look is just killer to me. So I'm just wondering what I would have to do lift wise to run that offset or will the Truxxx 2.5" leveling kit permit me to run that offset? And if the Truxxx kit will work, what size tire could I run?

You can run that kit no problem with those wheels. As far as tires I think I would stick with a 275/60 or maybe a 285/55.

What would a 18x9 with a -11 offset and 4.5 backspacing look like? I am lost on all this backspacing and offset stuff too. Would they stick out alot farther than stock?

They would stick out a good 2+ inches more.

So -12 with 275/60/20 is probably what I will go with. Let me ask you this thought Blackout, should I be concerned about ball joint stress with the 2.5" lift? I know I've read a few of you're posts on this site that were a little negative about that much lift with a spacer. I think the Truxxx kit is adjustable. There are 3 shims per side on this lift. I just wonder if I went down to 2.25" I could still run the setup on wheels and tires I just mentioned and save some stress or does it really matter. Just for the record, my truck will see the offroad very rarely. Really just bought the 4WD for pulling duckboat up a ramp and the occasional trip to the camp. One of those insurance things.

Oh yeah, just to be sure 275/60/20 with -12 offset and 2.5" level = no rubbing?
