JRLZ71 Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 I took my chocolate lab to the vet today because he had not been acting himself lately. Anyway, I dropped him off and thought that the doctor would call and say that he was just sick and he would be fine. Well I received a call, but it was worse than I expected; he has cancer in his mouth and nasal cavity, and there is absolutely nothing they can do for him besides put him to sleep. He was my first dog, and he was with me during some hard times. R.I.P Lou
ColoradoSkiCountry Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 So sorry. It about killed me when I found out from the Vet that my 10 year old Golden Retriever had Acute Renal failure and that there was nothing that could be done for her. I now have a 11 month old Golden Retriever/Lab mix. Just some advice: Don't wait too long before getting your next dog.
Stevens03 Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 Tough when you loose a good pet. Sorry brother... Another does help ease the pain.
RyanbabZ71 Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 How old I cant imagine what your going through. We have a 3 yr old black lab.
Mckenzie Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 My first weim was with me for about 12 years, we got him when i was 5 or 6. He died on September 11, 2008 and i cried all day. It really is tough to loose an animal as awesome as a good dog. Im sorry for your lose, bud. Just know that he isn't going to suffer.

JRLZ71 Posted December 16, 2010 Author Posted December 16, 2010 Everybody should take their pets for regular check-ups. I usually took him to the vet 2 times a year for check-ups, and he was always cleared. I couldn't believe it when I got the call saying he had cancer. Luckily my dad breeds labs, so I'll get one of his. It just won't be the same.
MLawZ71 Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 I'm sorry to hear about your loss. I had to have my first dog put down a couple years ago. I had him since I was 5 years old and he was 15 when we had him put down because of arthritis.
rebelman06 Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 Sorry to hear about your loss. My dog (jack russell-terrier-chow-pound mix lol) is 14.5 years old and I try to enjoy every morning she wakes up and greets me. She was "my sisters" dog but has since really become mine after my sister moved out. I think part of me wants to continue living at home (even though I'm in my junior year of college) just because I want to enjoy all the time I have left with her. She is really healthy right now, but you never know for how long. Sorry for your loss and good luck picking your next dog.
marine_devildog801 Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 Sorry to hear that. I had a Boxer for 8 years before he ran off and never came back. He had bad arthritis in his back legs. We figure he got caught by some coyotes or something.
