I might be opening a "can of worms" here but I would love to hear some inputs from some of you gents on Amsoil........ I recently did my research on lubricants and I am having a hard time not giving it a try after my "oil life monitoring" system was advising to change my oil at nearly nine thousand miles on conventional motor oil, yes I know motor oils and many other lubricats have come a long way but 9k miles.....? Is pretty hard to believe that you can push this synthetic oil (Amsoil 5w30 100% synthetic) to 20k plus miles before changing it, but then again you dont need to push it that far maybe in the 10k mark. Any inputs gents?????

modern oil can go alot longer then the oil of the stone age...i myself would never take conventional over 5k intervals...as far as amsoil, its good stuff my bro ran it for awhile the only downfall is the price...as for 20k oil changes, i would never recommend it ever lol..oh and your OLM won't know if you have dino/synthetic/kool aid/veggi oil in it so its better to keep tabs on the miles yourself

12 months or 12K miles is the standard Amsoil Guaranty I believe.. at least for motorcycles,.. it's all I run in mine.. but I'm on the 12 month side, only put about 3K a year on the bike.

I use Mobile 1 for the cars, and at 7500 in the Camry Hybrid (Wifes car) Mobile 1 is black as hell, so as stated above 5,000 is about it for a Daily Driver.

Try 35,000 mile oil changes. No joke. You have to change the filter at 25K regardless ( I wouldn't go that long on any other filter but Amsoil's though) , so I'll drop it then. If oil analysis shows the oil hasn't broken down, then there's no reason to change it - just throwing your money away if you do.

Every vehicle is different, but that Amsoil Signature Series 0W-30 is as good as it gets. Not just marketing hype either - they back it up with testing ... and you can also back it up yourself with an oil analysis. My brother sent his oil out at 15K, to 2 separate labs just to be sure ... because he didn't believe me -- and to tell you the truth, this went against everything I've been taught my entire life. The results showed the additive package was still doing it's job. The extra cost is justified by going a year on the same oil ... where before I would change it 7 times per year. Ends up cheaper in the long run, & your engine gets the best protection there is. And you even pick up a pony or two as an added bonus from the thinner oil.

I'm the last person on the planet to be a salesman, but the stuff sells itself. Proof for me is right on paper from 2 separate sources.

nice...... I am currently running mobil1 synthetic to try and get all the conventianal oil out of the engine, but pretty soon I will be changing it over to Amsoil 0w30. When I first changed over to the mobil1 i gained 1.3 more miles per gallon (wooohoo) so I'm hoping to maybe get a bit more with amsoil. And somewhere in the near future (@ 50k miles) I will be changing my tranny oil over to amsoil as well with a complete tranny flush. Maybe I will do an oil analysis later down the line too........... thanks for the inputs guys!!!

I'm running amsoil right now. Do I feel it is a good oil? Yes. Am I gonna run it longer than 5000 or so miles? No. Would I buy it again? Probably not, I feel the valvo synpower that was in it did a damn good job also and is less than half the price.

Gentlemen,

Our engines will last until the truck rots away around it with dino oils. Technically, there is no part of a properly designed engine that even comes close to stressing the film strength of the oil. My '00 Silvy has 161,000 with olm changes about every 7500 miles. At 7500 miles, it is about a quart low on oil.

The last difficult to lube part to go was flat valve lifters. Roller lifters ended that. I have always used dino and longish changes in heavy duty applications and have never had engine wear under 200,000 miles.

IMHO, there are times for synthetic. Turbocharging might be one, or a crappy engineered engine without enough oil to keep it cool or something of that sort but a good engine does well on quality dino oils.

just because oil has turned black does not mean its expired...if it comes out chunky like poo then you have issues

If you are going that long between oil changes then synthetic is a better choice to use. AMSOIL is a great oil and will serve you well on long oil change intervals.

If you are concerned about how well your engine is protected, you can send an oil sample off to see how well the oil is holding out. It at least will give you the piece of mind that all is well and that you can go to extended oil drains without any concerns that the oil is not doing it's job.

If you want a price on the cost for an oil change delivered to your door for the 0w-30 Signature Series, 5w-30 ASL 25k mile oil, the XL 5w-30 which is good up to 10k miles or the new O.E. 5w-30 oil which is good for what ever oil change interval your OLM shows, just PM me your address and I can get a quote right out to you.

Most all modern motor oils are light years ahead of what they were 30 years ago, so most any oil you choose is going to be good stuff. I've used several sythetic brands, Mobil 1 EP, Castrol Edge, Royal Purple, Valvoline Synpower, and they all performed great.

I decided to give Amsoil a try, and have stuck with it for the last 3 years. They've got a large variety of products, so I've got Amsoil everywhere in the truck now (except the brake fluid). I did the Preferred Customer yearly fee, so thought I would order a variety of products to absorb that fee. It's in the transmission, rear ends, differential, power steering, even the grease. 180,000+ miles and still running smoothly. I've also got Amsoil in the boat, jetski, lawnmowers, etc. All have performed great for the past 3 years since I switched them over.

I put the ASL 5w-30 in the first part of October, then change oil and filter again the first part of April to the 10w30 ATM for the summer. Basically twice a year. I suppose I could go longer OCI, but I do tow the boat around in the summer and then want to put the 5w-30 in for the winter. Cost is around $50 per oil change, which is close to the cost of the Mobil 1 EP that I used to use.

I'm definitly not an Amsoil salesman, but the stuff has worked well for me.
