New Tire Dilemma

So my neighbor knows a guy who knows a guy who owns a tire shop who apparently has the best prices in town. So I called, and sure enough, prices are tough to beat. He recommended the Hankook Dynapro ATM RF10 tire and couldn't say enough good things about it. I have heard nothing but great hype about this tire. But, apparently this tire has not yet been released in my size, as not a tire shop in two states has any available, nor can they tell me when they will. Best answer I got was from Pep Boys who said they are listed as "soon to be released".

I can get the Cooper Discoverer ATR for the exact same price as the Hankook.

Are the Hankook tires worth the wait, or should I "settle" for the Coopers?

My current tires still barely pass inspection, so I can wait a few weeks if I had to, but with winter here now I'd really like to get new meats sooner than later.

And btw, anyone have any inside info on the availability of the Hankooks?

I'll say this,... Your not settling when it comes to the coopers. It's just a matter of if your willing to wait for the other tire

Coopers are a good tire. in my book a close second to the hankooks. its up to you as to how long you want to/can wait. This is one thing i like about living here in MN. NO VEHICLE INSPECTIONS!!!!

In an AT tire test last year by i think Peterson's 4wd tested AT tires and the Hankooks and they outperformed the BFG KO's. Its a good tire but i suppose if you really want the Coopers go for it. All of the cooper's that i have ever head didnt have much for longevity. 2 cents.

I hope the Coopers have gotten better I had a set and got 30,000 and they were slick. Here the Coopers and the Hankooks are the lower end tire Not knocking them by the way.I have learned from experience you pay for what you get. These Generals that come on the truck are not very much better.I will be going with a higher end tire myself.

Compared to what? These cooper zeon's are top notch in my book? Just like any other manufacturer, there's a bad apple in every batch. I've owned trucks with alot of different brands, and these are def. on top of the pile.

edit: I'm not saying Coopers are the best,... but they certainly are a decent tire in my book.

So what would be a "high end tire"?

I run the Hankooks, and I can't say enough good things about them myself. These are a 50,000 mile tire, great on ice and snow.

here is some material for perusing....

I have no doubt the Hankook is a great tire; however, it is not available in my size. And a bird in hand is worth two in the bush.

The other tires I looked at when I was searching was the "General Grabber AT2's", "NITTO Terra Grapplers", and "Kumho AT KL78's". I wanted some BFG AT KO's, but they were just too out of my price range.

Cooper Zeon. Great in the snow & rain, only got 10k on mine and they look new, don't have any accurate measurement tool. AND made in the USA!!! THey look bad ass too.

Anybody know anything about Hercules?
I ran a set of Hercules Trail Diggers before.... good tire to get through things, but couldn't tell you about the wear, as I aquired them secondhand.
